Seeking advice: I have a Strategy Director who is a brilliant strategist but ho-hum people manager and is not advancing the dept from a business perspective (streamlining processes, balancing budget with strategic output, etc.). Their team isn’t happy so I risk skip levels leaving. They would really be better suited in an individual contributor role. I fear that if I make the move to IC, they’ll leave as they see opp for advancement as connected to team mgmt. Past coaching hasn’t “clicked.”

Is there anyone here looking to hire a Strategy consultant? I've got previous experience across public and private sector and I'm now looking for a new challenge with one of the top consulting firms in the UK.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I’m just ~1 year into consulting and curious to hear what everyone thinks about the sustainability. I feel constant pressure to perform well on engagements, up-skill, participate in internal initiatives, etc. I have been working 70 hours a week for as long as I can look back. Does it get better? Am I weak in wanting to move to a true 40-hour work week type job? I can see myself doing this for maybe a year more, but can’t imagine living my life this way!

I will say something. The protests (and even riots) ARE accomplishing something. When was the last time this many people took a critical look at police brutality? I won’t be surprised if there is some sort of major legislation pushed out because of this. With all that being said, I’m not a NIMBY. Just because I am not affected by the riots in my privy suburban town, I don’t want it to happen to small businesses and city dwelling families.
