You mean to job search without being employed? Yes, it does put you at a disadvantage.
And just a heads up - job seekers don’t “recruit”. Thats what the employers/companies/HR do. You’re not “recruiting” unless you’re in a role where your job is to fill a job position by searching for & interviewing candidates
I just quit my job last week and have been able to focus 100% on recruiting. Have been able to schedule dozens of intro calls and make much faster progress than if I was working. Also much less stressful if you can financially afford it (I have ~6 months run rate before I really need to take whatever I can get)
Depends. I quit my job before having a new job because I was burnt out and had no time to look for jobs while in my old one. Got 3 offers within a month of quitting. The one I finally took gave me a title bump and salary raise compared to the job I quit.
Big disadvantage. Keep your job until you can get a new one.
All in product management roles in tech
Best time to get a job is when you have a job. The market is hot, you should have no trouble.

It’s a mix. Some recruiters/hiring managers are very understanding of employment gaps and others automatically assume it means underperformance.
