If you’re sick, take off. If you aren’t, don’t.

No. Is someone telling you that’s a problem?

That’s frankly appalling. Regardless of the illness, you should take the time you need to rest and feel better. If I had an immediate supervisor who behaved this way, I’d escalate their poor behavior up the chain in a heartbeat. One person’s experience should not set the standard for everyone else. If we know nothing else about illness in general, it’s that everyone experiences it differently. If you’re not able to set boundaries yourself and have them respected, enlist the help of your skip-level manager or HR.
If you’re sick, you can and should take time off. I don’t know that you need to set the # of days ahead of time. When you feel better, you should start working again.
If you aren’t well, you should take whatever time you need to take care of your health. You aren’t doing anyone any good by trying to work while you are sick and feeling bad.

Exactly, nobody can see you and tell you how severe your symptoms are so might as will take advantage and get all the rest you need
Do what you gotta do to take care of yourself. If you don’t get better, you won’t be in any condition to help your team later on. It’s in your team’s best interests to let you rest before things get crazy in January
Not too much at all! However, keep in mind that no one knows how you feel, and everyone’s experience varies. If you need to take it easy a few days, make sure you actually tell your teams.
Nothing is too much. It’s your own perception. Take as much time as needed. Health first and foremost. Work will not stop but you will be punishing your own body by working when sick and may even prolong the sickness.

Not mild? Does that mean light or heavy symptoms?

Just fyi. A high fever can, in fact, be life threatening.
No.
