Is it true all employees at R/GA and Ketchum are expected to be in the office every day this week but Christmas Day?

I’m at a smaller agency and we’re open Wed, Thu, 1/2 day Fri. about 1/2 of us are in. mostly making sure the place doesn’t burn down. definitely leaving before 5 if every day. I don’t have to travel so I’m happy to cover and take my days at another time of year [we get 5 weeks of vacation]. I’ve also worked at large agencies that were closed and you end up covering days. it’s a wash.

We don’t need to be in the office, but we are technically working the weekdays between 12/26-12/31. We received a vague email that if we worked an extra 8 hours this month we could take 12/31 off. Unless you have a client planning a NYE activation there’s no reason to have to work on NYE!!

It’s been like this every year. We are never closed between Christmas and NYE. But this year, it’s the cherry on top of a rough year

@SS1 transplant in this context usually means someone who’s not local - an immigrant or someone from the opposite side of the country (e.g. Californian working in NY). It’s actually a pretty common term.

@SC2 - Ketchum is Omnicom. And every other Omnicom agency I know is closed. Unfortunately, your management, not your holding company, is to blame.

Fleishman Hillard is open this week too. Thx Omnicom

Doesn’t that make it impossible for transplant employees to see their families on Christmas?

Hopefully their employees have floating holidays they can use to celebrate whichever days are important to them.

we're open but a lot of people wfh. Agreed that it's kinda sad but most teams I've worked with are great about flexibility. Depends on your client.

Ive worked at several places that were open for business Christmas week. Makes sense. I covered for people then and they covered for me on my vacations. Never really had much work to do that week, but still had to pretend to be at work

@ketchum is it so your clients can enjoy break/have peace of mind knowing their PR company will alert them if a crisis hits or a PR opportunity emerges? News doesn’t stop this week. Same with @R/GA. Are you running their social media and keeping watch on their website/apps so they can relax over break? (Does R/GA manage client’s ecommerce sites? Imagine if one went down today. This is probably the biggest time of the year for you.) Trying to figure out how this makes sense

Coming up on 1 Year at MBB after undergrad. Not thrilled with the experience so far primarily due to WLB and lack of interesting project. Thinking Of exiting to Corp strategy or biz ops role in an industry of interest. One big hesitation is missing out on sponsored MBA. Would I be disadvantaged without MBA? Is it worth the 2 years without income and then another 2 year commitment post grad?
