Is it true when you become a partner at Big 4 you have to buy in to the partnership? Is that the case everywhere?

True at McKinsey as well

Technically you don't buy the units. You just put in a deposit to give the firm appropriate liquidity and then you make money off the difference between interest paid out and loan interest.

like

Yes, and you sell your units back to the firm when you separate or retire. Deloitte (probably all of the B4) have financing available to loan you the money to purchase the shares at a very low interest rate, which is what almost everyone does. In most cases it would not be worth it financially to pay off the loan early. When you gain more units as you advance, you need to purchase those as well.

Agreed with SM1. Is that not the case at Mck?

OP, what’s the case over at McKinsey?

Didn’t know that was the case at mck

Hey all, I’ve recently joined EY consulting from another Big 4 and have noticed there’s no discipline (at least in my team) around codes and charging time. People either charge a standard 7 hrs or some will charge time spent on internal activities to their client code. I was told that “the last person to charge their actual hours worked was promptly booted off the project”. Just wondering: 1) Is this a general cultural point accross all Consulting teams? Will challengin this get me in trouble?

For believers in attempting to achieve herd immunity - please help me understand your perspective. Experts indicate 50-70% of a pop is required for herd immunity, so at 50% we need 165M ppl. NYC, the hardest hit area, has some estimates of up to 25% people w/ antibodies. If we assume only 1 in 4 cases are confirmed via test, then only 9.5M people in USA have been infected, and a rate of 100-125K infections per day. This would mean we need 1234 days to reach immunity, or not until 11/8/2023
