Is it uncommon to ask for part of one’s bonus for the year when departing a firm as severance?

What’s your firm’s referral bonus? Mine is 10k (BL CSM scale) and think that’s quite low…have heard of other firms offering 75k anecdotally, can anyone confirm if true?

I’m friendly/chat with associates and am on great terms with one partner who gives me work often, but not much else. The firm “encourages” reaching out to partners to chat, though I’ve tried and been essentially ignored. Partners rarely have enough time to give me feedback, so I feel they don’t have time to chat.

The clawback doesn’t necessarily prevent me from starting ASAP, but it does affect my start date in some respect & I’d definitely try to negotiate with the new firm to pay all/some of it. For context, the signing bonus is low/mid 5-figures. Thoughts?
