Is it unethical to take as much personal days I can before putting in my two weeks?

If you have it, use it.

Check your pto policy, many places will pay out unused pto when you quit giving you a nice bonus.

like

Exactly. You may be getting it one way or the other.

What’s unethical about it? Lol

like

Personal days are NOT paid out only PTO so make sure to use it before you leave

like

Not unethical - just have to weigh the benefit of the days off against the payout you can get for unused days

Would be unethical to take a lot of “sick” days though. Some people will also judge you if you take two weeks off then put in your notice right when you come back

Make all your needed doctor appts and see them before leaving the firm
Get your CPE record and certificates as well.

Depends on what kind of a professional you are and whether you like your team.

Unless you don’t want the payout, save it!

Not unethical. You just won’t get your payout. You are better off taking it as a payout! 💵💵

You realize you would get the difference refunded later, right?

like

Not unethical. I left a firm with unlimited PTO, so I took a ton of time off before I left since it wouldn’t be paid out.

No. You earned them. It may be underhanded to time your two weeks so that it coincides with a two week vacation- it would depend on if you have responsibilities to wrap up

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

Do you record your unbillable time? I have had conflicting responses. I have been told it's not good for efficiency calculations but others have told me if your still doing work let people know. For example, I get weird international stuff sometimes that not everyone gets (I think maybe? ) and I need to reread the 5471 rules or 8865 rules as I do the returns. I have been told not to bill for this but if I didn't have to spend time to do such things my billable hours would be higher
