Is it unlikely to get an IT Specialist role within a government agency without being a veteran, no prior govt experience and no clearance? I see a couple of roles that are basically the federal equivalent of what I’ve done as a contractor but when applying to these roles in the past I never get referred.

Your mistake is in thinking that demonstrable experience and proven skills to accomplish the job matter. After being a high profile performer as a contractor, I applied to the exact same role on the federal side and was rejected. Twice. So, I just kept making more money performing said task as a contractor. 🤣

Clearance doesn’t matter usually when applying to govt. But the best way to get a govt job is to get hired by your client...

Yes, it is unlikely. Speaking as a former fed HM, vet preference is broken and makes federal hiring a disaster and crowds out the overwhelming majority of non-vet qualified applicants. Clearance isn't a deal breaker at all, and lack of government experience is only a factor in that it potentially removes a particular hiring authority.

Thoughts on timing baby number 2? The original plan was two kids less than 4 years apart; I was planning on trying this summer, but decided to delay because COVID. My daughter just turned 3, and I'm back and forth between just giving in and trying now so they're more closely spaced, or waiting until there's a vaccine even though they'll be further apart in age than I'd like. Thoughts? I'm 31 so biologically I'm not in a huge rush but I'm really starting to feel the baby fever.
