Is it unprofessional to bring a pencil to an interview instead of a pen?

If you bring anything to write with, write on, and copies of your resume, you get a +1 coming in the door. If you bring none, I immediately question why you're there. I don't care if it's a pencil, a pen, or a clay tablet and stick. Be ready to write shit down.

I did all my case interviews in pencil, worked out fine here

like

It is absurd that any of you think that someone will judge you on your choice of writing instrument.

like

Your pencil will not be the reason you don't get the job.

like

Only if you put it through your trouser’s zipper. Frowned upon for most companies.

like

As long as you have lead in your pencil, they should feel satisfied.

Haha, I’m thinking through how this could go. I’d refrain from sharpening the ✏️ in front of them and making a mess. Otherwise, I don’t think it matters. For consulting interviews, I’d get a sharpy. The pencil may be tough to read if you’re roughing out slides and such.

S&... I didn't even consider that some pencils need sharpening lmao. It has been a while since I've seen a non-mechanical pencil

Haha, do you know what a rotary phone is? yea, I was making a joke.

Yeah I got your joke, just reminded me about what pencils are 😂

.5MM all day! I wouldn’t go with a pencil for a case interview though.

I used a mechanical pencil. Worked out for me

As a lefty, most pens smudge while I write :( pencil all the way

Doesn't matter as long as you knock it out the park!!

Currently in the US but interviewing for a UK-based firm and role. The comp level they are throwing around is £250k TC. Is this reasonable for a Director-level role with 12 YOE? My comparator would be wait 18-24mo to become a consulting partner - in the US that starts at $450k/£325k. For the purposes of this question, assume I’m optimizing for initial comp, not long term potential, and not livability, Intl experience, WLB, CoL etc. Thanks!

Had my first recruiter call today. When they asked me about my comp expectations, I asked them to tell me their range first and they said that they couldn’t disclose it as it was confidential. However, if I told them my range, they could tell me if they could match it or not. Is this standard practice? I didn’t want to disclose my range first but they didn’t leave me with a choice. How do you navigate such a situation?
