Been there, done that (divorced in early 40s). Wasn’t fun. Cost me a ton of money but I was better off without him!
Dating as a mid-40s female was a challenge - we are largely “invisible” as men in our age group are often seeking women 25-35, and I wasn’t interested in men 20 years older than me either.
Wow. Divorce proceedings are such bs…

You know what stat I found interesting? My ex girlfriend that gaslighted me and eventually ghosted me after 6 months of dating and semi moved in together with in like a 3-4 day a week type thing, I found out that she has broken up with someone days before seeing me and had just kicked him out of her apartment, and also days after breaking up with me and ending the serious LTR she started dating someone new and had moved in like a month later.
Well, there’s a term for that. Researchers call that person a serial cohabiter. Later found out she was engaged to man number 3, the third man she had dated and moved in with all within a single calendar year.
Do you know what the percent likelihood is that her marriage fails? Almost 70% (and I forget the stat, but something gross like within the first 5 years of marriage too). This brings me great pleasure to think about. I don’t need to drag her through the mud even though she bashed me on social media and misrepresented me and the things I did to all her friends. I dont even need to share the truth of what happened. I just take solace in the fact that she’ll get what she deserves.
Won’t need to cohabitate after tho. Get. That. Breadddddddd.
I am forty and going through a separation right now. Been living on my own for about two weeks now… I am still alive.

Uh yes..why would you want to be divorced, unless you’re that miserable in your marriage. If that’s the case do it now so you and your SO can move on. Having been that it’s not easy, lots of transitions but sure the dating options can be a lot but not always good.
Just curious about this totally different stage of life

It’s tons of fun. Actually in your exact scenario. Being single in my highest earning years? Not a problem. Paying ungodly amounts of money during a divorce, sounds good. It’s worth it.
Finally being able to use dating apps I’ve been hearing about for a decade, cautiously optimistic.
It's a bit strange. It's hardly inevitable to get divorced. I mean, IIRC, the overall divorce rate is < 50% these days. And for educated/high-income demographics, it's always been much lower (<30%).

What makes you think you'd be alone? I am actually quite happy single and able to have "me" time, but I've had a couple LTRs and lots of dates since getting divorced 6 years ago at 38.
I didn’t mean alone in a gloomy way, just like getting to be just myself. Figure out my own hobbies, hang out with my own friends, spend money on only things I want. Also doing that as a 40 year old with a totally different mentality than 23 year old me.
Just kind of interesting to think about.
Why did I just laugh so hard thx for my making my night
