Is it weird to do conflict checks before an offer is made?

My firm asked me to submit conflicts before I did a second round of interviews bc they wanted to get started on clearing as soon as possible. I didn’t, but submitted my conflicts form the day after receiving the offer

like

In my experience, they give an offer contingent on passing a conflicts check. I think if a firm reversed this order on me, I'd give a long hard think before doing it, just because it takes a few hours to put together.

like

I’ve never heard of this happening (either to myself or any of my friends who have lateraled), except once where they told my friend the offer letter had to come from a specific partner who was on an international flight and they wanted them to get conflicts started anyway.

Would be against the ethics rules for you to disclose who your clients are. So not weird - a violation of the rules of professional responsibility. You cannot disclose current clients. Furthermore, it is irrelevant who your current clients are. Those clients may choose to go with you, stay with the current firm or go elsewhere.

like

I don’t want to quibble with the ethics board that rule applies when I’m not holding onto a firm offer of employment - not to mention all of the words of the rule applies. What if your disclosure ends up prejudicing the client? Not worth the risk based on the ethics decisions in my jurisdiction.

I was asked to fill out conflicts form before first round and did not get a CB.

Sharing some thoughts I’ve had lately:

The end of my suffering occurs with the death of my ego. I am reborn when I surrender to life exactly as it is, right at this moment (and it’s always “this moment”). I can begin to grow when I either accept life as it is, or I change my life because I can’t accept it. The better I become at surrender and acceptance, the more I experience serenity. After a long enough time I realize I’ve had a spiritual awakening. Now I am peace / joy / love.

Thinking of starting my own estate planning and real estate closing law firm. I have some experience in both. My concern is getting clients once I open the doors. I graduated in 2018 and have worked in a few different jobs since then. I am located about 45 min outside of Boston. Anyone open their own firm and see success right of the bat? What did you do to start getting clients in the door?

I am due to join pwc IAC very soon. But while verifying my background, they tried calling my ex employer who didn't answer their calls or mails. It was a small firm with no specific HR department.
I forgot to take my relieving letter from him.
They have given me a partial go ahead to join contingent on the fact that i get the document from him.
I tried contacting him over calls and whatsapp but he didn't answer it as i didn't leave on good terms with him.
What is the way out? Please help
