Is it weird to take a solo trip if I’m in a relationship? I’m taking a solo trip soon and I have a boyfriend and people keep asking me why I’m not going with him, but I need some R&R/ me time. People seem really surprised by this. What are your thoughts?

Not weird at all. The funny thing is people wouldn’t question a solo trip if it was work related. Why is this any different??

Been happily married for 7 years and my husband understands very well (now) that girls' trips are a thing and I take them. Slightly different since it's not a solo trip, but the concept is the same. Space is healthy. My husband and I are usually inseparable when I'm not working. It's good for us to have space and separate interests, I think. Oh, and people talk about us, I'm sure, and I don't give a single damn

Agreed! I take one girls trip a year for a short time since I don’t have a lot of vacation and need / want to spend time with my partner and child. People find it super strange that I go on a girls trip and constantly ask if he’s ok with it. Mostly older people so I do think it’s a generational thing that is changing. Good for you A6

People who think it’s weird likely have some sort of codependency issue. Sorry, not sorry. 🫠 how dare you have a life outside of your relationship!

That is not always the case. My job gives me very little vacation time so if I’m going to take a trip I would rather take it with my SO then alone because I wouldn’t have the option to take another one with him until atleast the next year.

Thanks for all the advice in this thread! You all are right, I’m going to do it and I don’t need to explain why.

Do you boo boo. Personally, everything is more fun with my fiancé so I wouldn’t like that. But do you!

You don’t owe people any kind of explanation. Do whatever makes you happy

Do it. I just came back from a solo trip and I am married.

Not weird at all. Sounds awesome.

I’m married and I go on more solo vacations than ones with my partner. I swear it’s the secret to staying together.

Do you. I am in a relationship and have taken solo trips and am planning on taking another one. You don’t need to justify to anyone. It’s no crime to enjoy your own company.

Good for you! Who cares what people think! Unrelated.. but I am SICK of people asking when I’m moving in with my long time boyfriend, getting married, having kids….I live alone and love it. We don’t need to explain personal choices to anyone. ANYWAY..Enjoy your trip.

Girl. Go on your trip. Have a great time.

Do it. I’m married and would love to take a solo trip.

Not weird at all! I’ve been with my partner for 10 years & I took a solo trip to one of my favorite cities a few months ago. Stayed in an amazing hotel, ate great food, had a king bed all to myself - it was incredible. Highly, highly recommend!

My husband and I do both! Longer trips we tend to do together. But sometimes we’ll do long weekends alone or with separate friend groups. Usually we do something the other doesn’t enjoy much (like the photography clinic he went to last year or the spa weekend I treat myself to sometimes).

Further insight: my husband and I both were pretty independent sorta-loners before we got together, so this is not a big change for either of us. We both need recharge time.

I love trips alone. As soon as my almost 2yo stops breastfeeding (for the love of all that is holy - please be soon), I am OUT for a solo trip. I will get raised eyebrows but IDGAF. I’m an introvert and I have not had a truly restful 24 hours in 6+ years since the time I was pregnant with my first. Take your trip. Enjoy your break. Recharge and ignore any comments. If you feel the need to respond - say, I love spending time and vacationing with boyfriend, but sometimes I need alone time to reflect and spend time with myself. We’re all different, and this works for me. Then change the subject and decline to discuss it further. Have SO much fun. I’m jealous;-)

You know what, it is weird. But that’s only because for years we have all been told that it’s weird. I say do it! Take your power. Don’t apologize. We all could use a little paradigm shift in favor of women’s autonomy, independence, and power.

Hope your “me time” includes a massage, good books or some other type of self-care/pampering.

Nope! I go solo trips (2wks+) here and there. Im married lol

“Me time” is not always recognized. If you’re a woman it’s even less recognized. That may explain why you got these people telling you that. Oh well, now thanks to you they know “me time” is a real thing. You taught them sth :)

There are trips I want to take that my boyfriend has little interest in. If I want to go I’m not going to wait around to see if someone is interested! Go for it!! 😄👏🏻

How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.
