Is it worse being a senior or a manager?

It really depends, if you have a bad team, then manager. All of the work will end up falling on you. If your team is solid, you can focus on actually managing the project and picking up the higher level memos/etc.

Senior. You are like the center of a 4 way intersection. Staff, client, manager and partner all want something from you. At least in my experience. You get your work done when everyone is logged off. Smh.

Being a senior is extremely difficult, especially the first year, but I've found the worst part about being a manager (even worse than the admin stuff) is that when your teams don't do what they are supposed to, it all falls on you. A partner is rarely going to get into the weeds and do work if your team checks out or isn't performing where they should.

This is so true. When staff can't do the work, the senior helps out. When senior can't, manager steps in. When the manager can't, the partner... is on the sideline rooting for you! lol

Senior is widely known as the hardest job in public accounting.

First year as a manager for sure, it’s like being a first year associate but you’re expected to know everything

Senior acting as a a manger

I do way less tedious work as a manager

Good for you! I do staff, senior, and manager role all at the same time. LMAO

Manager - more responsibility, expected to always be available, if audit doesn’t get done it’s on u. But you basically control ur schedule so if u want to F off for 3 hrs during the day u can
Senior - more of the tedious/bs work, have to babysit the associates all day, forever creating trackers and being ur manager/directors go to person. But if shit hits the fan the partner will blame the manager not you!

My experience only 😂 pick your poison

Agree with this. Depends on your perspective. Personally, I preferred senior to manager just having more control over the day to day workflow.

I am a senior and can only speak my experience as a senior. I think senior is hard when you have a stupid manager who doesn't know anything.

Not as hard as when a manager doesn't know how to teach a senior

Manager. There’s a lot that goes into an audit that seniors don’t see.

It's worst being a senior asked to perform as manager to show you can make it.

Senior manager

I was a S3 last year and just promoted. I sincerely am afraid of the promotion since I truly think managers more difficult.

Have been told by partner in charge of my entire BU that he hated being a Senior. Made it to partner and loves it though

I would love having a partner salary too

Senior - consistent levels of moderate to high stress. Manager - more flexibility so more times of less stress; but when things get busy, the stress is more.

Senior: same about of BS work, but less pay

I miss being a senior

Hardest year is the first year as manager

Not legal-related but: thoughts on A Jazzman’s Blues? I loved it. Been a while since a movie has stayed on my mind long after it ended, like this one has. Shocking Tyler Perry wrote it. “Paper Airplanes” is a hauntingly beautiful song.

12 yrs at firm, 1-rated director here. I think this place has finally broken me - I just action my to do list rather than proactively lead, and I’ve stopped equating lack of desire to make a push for partner with personal failure. I now think of former colleagues who’ve left and seem happy way more than feeling inspired by the young partners I’ve always looked up to. Question is - what’s next? Switching jobs before busy season feels risky during WFH. Have I withered on the vine here?

I feel like managers become the “you think you have it bad, I worked way more 90 hour weeks than you” when you start talking about leaving. Just my opinion, but not going to help people stay

Senior Associate - does 99% of the work
Associate - has no idea what’s going on the whole time
Experienced Associate - says he’s going to help but he’s not
Manager/partner - disappears at the beginning and doesn’t show up until the end

What’s really the difference between being an S3 and M1 (other than $)? I feel like I’m already doing my managers job from budgeting, scheduling, deciding approaches, executing the approach (cont)

My entire team (I’m Senior with most tenure) is terrified of our Manager, who is confrontational, rude, and stand-offish. Everyone including the other seniors on my engagement are scared to talk to this manager and you can hear in their voice they’re nervous. Funny thing is is once the partner gets on the phone the manager is the nicest most bubbly person in the firm! So two-faced.

Everytime you shake someone’s hand and it feels like your best friend, could it be that it’s only superficiality? With no regard to well being, without an inkling of compromise....handshake is nothing

Wells Fargo, good company to work at?

Wondering if I could get some feedback. Currently have two very similar offers from both Deloitte and EY (both audit roles). Potential third from PwC but I am a bit more intrigued by the industries I was told I’d work in for the first two. Anything I should consider? Should I stay away from any of them in particular?

What’s it like working at EY FIDS? What are the differences from audit?

For Denver Co, what are the main industries for audit?

I am seriously getting tired of spending hours on project trackers. Managers, please I request you don't ask your seniors to waste time on trackers. This is reducing productivity.

So tired I just put face wash on my toothbrush

Is financial due diligence a good area to transfer to from audit? If the end goal is to be better at financial deal evaluations and financial decisions?
