Is it worth doing a UI/UX Bootcamp? I really want to pivot my career into this but it’s so expensive.. around $14K. Has anyone here done a complete 180 on their career and can offer some insight?

What bootcamp are you looking at for $14K? That's definitely on the higher end of the scale

Those two are vastly different in price. Last I checked. Springboard doesn't cost $14K, but GA does.

You should consider looking for cheaper options if you're nervous of the cost and think about the kind of salary you could get out of it - - that dictates the ROI

As for if it's worth it--you don't have a lot of options. It's either:
- Bootcamp
- Grad School
- Shift into design role at current company
- More self guided courses (eg coursera UX specialization)

All have their own costs/tradeoffs

Use google’s UX course

That's not a bootcamp. It's hardly anything

No. Don't. Do. It.

I did a bootcamp (general assembly). I’m now 16k in debt working at a startup that pays little to nothing after an excruciating job search, where I don’t get to do real UX work because of budget cuts, and struggle to write a case study so I can apply to new places.

But . I’m hopeful ..I do love being in the product space

Genuinely curious why a few women shaming Indian culture and men in the main bowl? It looks like a trend and every week someone posts something about Indian food, Indian men etc. I have not seen any other cultures do it or Indian men doing it. Doesn’t mean Indian women they meet are perfect. Too fragile or it’s an act of attention seeking or shaming culture is new cool?

I have 20k in HYSA and 7K in stock brokerage. I am looking to buy an investment property in the next year or two but need around 50K for a down payment. I want to direct 20k yearly into my 401k for tax benefits, but is it smarter to keep it in an HYSA to use it for the rental? Can I liquidate the 401 to buy a rental or are there hidden fees/taxes?

Additional Posts in Designers

Hi there! I’ve been working as designer in Toronto for the past 14 years, mostly for marketing/design agencies. In my role for the last 7 years I have been doing both front end design (html/css) and digital design (web apps/websites). I am looking now to make a move into tech and am unsure what I should be making, as someone who has both development and design skill sets. What are your thoughts on this?

As someone who is more reserved, not verbose/verbal, more of an observer and writer —

Got an interview tomorrow with a design director, pretty excited.

Use the comment section to offer any advice, cheer me on or just post a random emoji 🙏

Hi fishbowl! I am looking for senior designers (5-7 year experience ) that has BTL shopper marketing experience, alc experience a plus. Must be able to concept national retailer specific programs. Can developing key visuals, p.o.s. Based in nyc, but remote for now. Please dm me with your book!

I have been short-listed among 2 other applicants for a great UX/UI role.
The role is very UI focused, am a jr but the role is Mid weight, yet I still got through! Yay
But now I got an email from the interviewer asking for live links of apps and websites that are similar to theirs that I have designed before.. I am stuck... should I decline the interview? I don't have much links to send. And the ones I did were confidential and the ones that are not , are already on my website what should I do?

I had a really weird interview for Creative Director today.

It’s a small startup. HR interviewed me and asked all the hard hitting questions (how do you get design inspiration, how do you deal with design roadblocks, what sets you apart for this role?) which I thought was odd for a screening interview.

They made some affirmative noises then said the next step would be a design test (one pager) which I would present to a panel of interviewers including the CMO.
Anyone else think this is odd?

What do you think of fiverr, upwork, etc ?why do you like or not like them?

I’m currently living and working close to Boston but I’m considering moving back home for personal reasons. Unfortunately, “home” doesn’t offer much local options and it’s not close enough to travel into the city every day for work. I’ve been considering finding a fully remote job but I’m concerned about what salary/compensation I could expect. Has anyone here had luck with finding a fully remote UX position and maintaining their current salary?
