Is it worth getting an offer from another firm to use it as leverage to get a raise from your current firm? I like my team and want to stay, but this seems like the only way to get that pay raise match. Other companies are offering over 10K higher for the same position in the same city

You can try, but be ready to walk away if it doesn't work out.

Of course it is.

PwC will definitely counter. They aren’t as uncompromising as they let on. Many people I know have done it.

like

They didn't counter. I don't think they could match anyway. So be sure that you are ready to walk away.

like

Do it

like

Yup, let them fight over you

like

As others have said, be prepared to walk away. You might have more leverage right now given all that is going on with the labor market, but most firms only counter when the staff member is really good. The offer also generally has to come from another firm, most don’t care about industry offers since industry isn’t a true competitor.

like

It really think it depends on the team. So you have to get yourself ready if the team doesn’t counteroffer. When they counteroffer, need to make sure to have the offer letter in the other firm ready. They might ask for a proof of the offer.

like

For $10k idk, but $20k yes

Also, word on the street I’ve heard is you get to do that once in your career. So use it wisely. The second time they dont try to match.

Yes, I have heard this as well. Can only do this once so pick your ideal time.

I feel a little crazy saying this, but more money at this point doesn’t resonate. I see a ton of exit planning and boomerang threads here, but I’d take a 50% pay cut (or a 50% raise) for an exciting role. That’s totally privilege talking, but I just can’t imagine chasing extra money in PE or lateraling just for the money. No virtue signaling here at all. I actually worry on some level that I’m somehow a moron for not giving a thought to maximizing earnings.

I applied for a position at a creative agency via LinkedIn. I'm not excited about agency work but job hunting hasn't been going well and I applied anyway. They reached out and would like to interview. But when I went to look over the job details again, I found their listing on ZipCruiter gives a pay range, which at their high end is $20k less than my minimum salary reqs. Should I still interview with them? If not, how can I politely reply and decline the interview?

What’s up with this trend of hiring managers rejecting developers who don’t have FAANG experience on their resume? People in consulting companies also work for clients who handle high traffic and complex architectures. Also, not everyone wants to work at FAANG companies due to moral issues that these big tech companies ignore and blatantly misuse personal data and privacy.
