Is it worth going to a smaller firm like Crowe, Baker Tilly, etc in order to break into FDD? Or should I keep looking at Big 4? I'm coming from risk advisory (current S1 CPA), so the switch seems very difficult.

My rotation opportunity here is on hold indefinitely due to covid, and from the firm's side, they prefer external hires from audit (good experience, steal them from other B4, no transfer politics).

I second this. Also, I’m seeing some remote listed on positions saying they can be worked anywhere in the US. Will this remain true during and after Covid?

like

Definitely do it. Risk to FDD is a super hard transition, while middle market FDD to big 4 FDD is trivial.

I’m in MM TAS (firm not on your list), and hiring more broadly.

Try internal transfer! Our group (FDD) needs lots of ppl to help out everyone is crazy busy now

Moving to NYC for work and looking for places. Deciding whether I should live with random roommates or shell out an extra couple hundred a month on a studio/1BR. With COVID getting worse and winter coming, I see it both ways: I may appreciate having other people to live/interact with but I also appreciate a space completely to myself where I'm completely comfortable considering I may have to spend a lot of time at home (I will be WFH most days). Anyone have a perspective? Has covid changed it?

Hi everyone. Hope everyone is enjoying their audit/tax season. I’m going into my 4th year as an audit partner. Let’s say the firm is in the top 5-10 range. Comp is $365k (draw plus distributions). Haven’t had comp discussions this year, but historically, it’s been 50-60k increases YOY. I’m sure this is under Big 4 salary levels, but for any National accounting firm partners, wanted to get thoughts. Thanks!

I learned the biggest lesson of my professional life, never let your employers/manager know your exact age. Especially when you are 23 (looking like 27) they always compare it with their life whenever you ask for a salary raise and you end up receiving a nominal increment.
P.S. - I left that job and am making 1.75x than what I was there!
Blessed.

Currently a staff in audit - 6 months in. Glad to be learning a lot, and have had a generally positive experience at the firm other than a few interactions, some tough busy season nights. Really been intrigued by TAS/M&A, however, and had a few convos with a senior in TAS i know at the firm. It’s closer to what I studied, but don’t know how to make the jump as it seems an internal transfer could take 6+months/senior rank and a lot of convincing. Is it better to jump firms/has anyone done this?
