You don’t need a license to sell your own house. Just do a for sale by owner
You would have to get it and be associated with a broker. Some brokers don’t allow you to sell your own home but your dads should be fine. Depending on the brokerage you may have to charge a commission in order for them to do the work they do. FSBO would be the better way to go if it’s only for one transaction. Or check out Rex Realty
I have my RE license (I’m an attorney by trade), and I still partner with experienced brokers when I sell properties.
I live in an extremely hot real estate market, and it’s still competitive. You’re not always going to sell your property just by putting on the MLS without additional work.
Also, if you go the FSBO route, be prepared to be blackballed by buyers agents. It’s not right, but it happens in every market.

If you’re selling a 1.6M house I think you’re better off just trying to negotiate commissions imo. At that price point the marketing/staging matters so much more. Assuming it’s not a market where every house is that much. Just my thoughts could be way wrong

C1 I tend to agree. A good RE agent should be able to sell your house for more, or more quickly, or be able to negotiate other things.
Or a real estate attorney, but it would still cost you some money.

I’ve sold 2 homes using an attorney. Cost be $1500 each time. No commissions.
Now, to attract ppl to your house, you may need to add a sweetener to their realtor or else why would they show the house.
Flip side, use Facebook and community groups to let ppl know you’re interested in selling. I got a great deal (at the time) by posting on my HOA Facebook group
Ah I did not know that. Thanks
