What’s your tc now? AD would be around 200k
Can get D as a MBB manager
What is your TC with breakdown now as an EM? How far along are you from the AP promotion and what would your TC breakdown be then? What is your YOE in total and as this firm? What is your academic qualifications (e.g., Bachelors, MBA, MS, PhD, MD)?
What would be your TC and breakdown be for the AD role big Pharma?
What function/title is your role there? What have you been told will be your trajectory in this role (time to Director)
You should consider reach out to Biotech roles for the Director level to get in there. If you’re finding it challenging at big Pharma.
What are your priorities in life? (E.g., Comp, WLB, location/remote, work traveling for points, fast pace vs slower paced work, diversity of work can vs. continuity of work, etc.)
Also remember if you’re in good standing, you can always boomerang back if you don’t like big Pharma.
Generally speaking, you typically should not be getting a lower TC from MBB to Pharma unless you’re maybe on the BA to EM track as you have too low YOE for Pharma to level you appropriately. Or you’re like a PPMD making way too much for pharma to match, but even then it’s possible. Most MBB I know exit to comp equivalent or greater TC (including equity) roles in biotech/pharma from the EM role.
At EM level at MBB, would aim for D at least
If the variable comp is good, it may not actually be a paycut…
If it’s just a position trust me, don’t take the pay cut unless it’s a toxic environment you want to leave.
I was junior associate also getting AD/D offers. Don't under sell
What role are you considering?
🙃fair, but I meant what function. Strategy, businesss development, marketing, other? Moving to a role that’s a lot different because you want to do a different type of work often means a pay cut. Moving to a similar role (e.g., strategy) and you should be able to retain, or maybe even increase pay. If you move to strategy you might be able to come in as a Director, or even Senior Director depending on company.
Are you very young?
If you got promoted super fast and you are around 25, then big pharma may not give you the D title
