In house is usually the dream gig. If you're looking for more money and more hours, maybe.

Was thinking about having the firm experience to build credibility and then lateraling back to in house

like

Why do you need the firm experience to build creditability?

like

this is my question too. we go to firms to build credibility to go in house haha.

Thinking about lateraling to a different in house opp later and larger companies staffed with in house counsel who have firm experience will likely look favorably at firm experience as well.

I am a junior lateraling to another firm. Do I HAVE to take a client from my former employer to the new employer? Client signed a retainer with the firm, but I signed on behalf of the firm. It was a cold call to the firm and I am the only one who handled the file. The new firm does not do this work. Current firm does. Overdue on bill. Current firm said they don’t want the client.

Has anyone ever been put in a position to decide whether to choose a job where you can make a difference (ie prosecutor, public defender) vs a job that offers you a lot of money (ie enough to take care of your family, parents, etc.)? If so, how did you choose? Any guidance or thoughts from anyone would be helpful😣

As posted in Women in Law, a handy tip on how to colour code your outlook inbox:

(1) go to “View” tab
(2) select “View Settings”
(3) select “Conditional Formatting”
(4) select “Add” and name e.g. “Urgent”
(5) select “Font” and choose e.g.
- effects: underline
- colour: Red
- font style: bold
- size: Big
(6) select “Condition” and navigate to “More Choices”.
(7) select “Categories” and choose one.

Assign an email with that category and it’ll change colour!

I received an offer from a 40+ attorney firm on Friday. Mostly partners, only 4 assocs. It came directly from the mp on video call. There appear to be no HR Person. MP seems like a cool guy. Really liked the 5-6 partners I met. Seem really nicer but most were newer only like 1-2 years at the time and lower level who mostly help out on other partners’ matters. I was visibly excited about offer. Just learned that it’s actually quite a toxic workplace. How/What do I now say when I reject offer?
