Never turned one down, but I’ve been promoted while feeling like I wasn’t ready for it.
Then I wound up doing almost the same stuff with a better title & comp, and eventually realized a bunch of other people at my level and higher were winging it too.
Not wrong to be scared of new responsibilities, but better to move up and learn than to be overlooked, IMO.
Take the promotion. I refrained from getting one mainly because I did not want more responsibility. Guess what? They gave me more responsibility anyways.
If you don’t want to update your resume or LinkedIn because you don’t want to start to sell yourself to recruiters at your higher level, that makes sense. But where you at right now, just take the promotion.
Agree 100% with CS1. Everyone else is winging it and learning on the job too.
Also, are you a woman? This is a common sentiment among us women that doesn’t seem to afflict men!
I have the same sentiment when it comes taking a junior AD under my supervision. My CD mentioned that she thought I was ready but rather than saying “yes” and agreeing, I just smiled. Taking someone fresh out of school and new to the industry is a lot of responsibility. I’m still learning how to manage my workload.
Same! I think my biggest fear is that I’ve had managers that have really sucked in the past and I don’t want to be a disappointment to anyone.
Bowl Leader
Honestly I don’t want to advance beyond my current title, so I totally understand this.

This is how I feel at Sup level too 😅 I’m good with the amount I make and don’t want more responsibilities
Update: my boss left and won’t be replaced. So I’m getting all the responsibility and no raise or promo. Should’ve seen that coming!
I'm working on a Copy Supv role with a solid team and a great CCO if now might be a good time...
Nothing ventured nothing gained...why not try, take the promotion, do your best it most likely will work out...break a leg
