Personally I think that sounds at least lateral

IMO it’s the logical next step and exit op for a senior manager in PA
I’m confused how any SM to director move could ever be looked at as a step down?
A lot of companies will give title without responsibility to get people to accept offers. If you’re cool with that then I agree. But it’s all about the role and long term plan for each person. Sounds like for OP this is a good opportunity. I have a client that gives out director titles like candy. They don’t have any team under them and are essentially senior accountants. Hard pass.
Depending on what positions are above controller for this specific company it could be a step backwards.
It doesn’t sound like a step backwards. I know 6-7 year SMs leave for SM positions in industry. Also title doesn’t matter as much as what you actually do. I’ve been offered a Director position but had no one below me so I would be directing myself lol, vs now I actually have a team without being a director.
Are you getting paid more? Do you get to have a life? That’s more important than title imo
About a $75k pay bump and CFO is right above Controller. 10+ people reporting to Director. CFO makes $3M+ with stock comp. Better work life balance than current position in public.
That sounds pretty great to me haha.
