Is letting a firm or recruiter know that you are willing to “taking a lap, associate year, etc.” for a certain job/firm a bad call? My thought is that it shows interest in the firm/opportunity (and that you’re willing to take a bit less $$$), but want to confirm this would not be perceived negatively.

Do you mean come in below your class year? I am not sure from your post.

This works well if you are switching practice areas or moving from a smaller firm to biglaw. I would consider mentioning it to an outside recruiter but not offer it up wholesale. Taking a years haircut can make transitioning easier/more effective and not place you in an "in over your head" situation right away.

like

Yes. That is exactly what I mean. Offering to come in a class year below current year.

Outside recruiters, you can tell them what you want. When it comes to firms, if you were changing practice areas I would offer it but if it is same practice area but different firm then it might appear a little desperate to offer unprompted.

👋🏻 New mom here. I’m seeing a lot of comments about parents opting for “no sleepover” rules. Is this because of Covid, or is this a new thing? I went to sleepovers all the time as a kid and just wondering what reasons beyond a case-by-case basis would be to have this rule? Not judging, just genuinely curious.

Do you have to invite people from your office to your wedding? I work at a very small office with out 12 people total, including staff. The other associate here invited everyone in the office, and their significant others to her wedding. That's a lot of extra money I wasn't intending to spend for people I'm not particularly close to. Anyone else been in a similar situation?

I'm a senior associate and got a job offer to move in house for the type of job I want at the type of company I want to work at. However, the benefits are bad (e.g., no paid maternity leave, etc.), so it probably would not be a forever job.
