It’s not a must. I’ve seen several people making the switch without an MBA. But that is generally within the same organization.
But getting an MBA will definitely make your life easier if you really want to switch to PM if you’re not from a tier-1 or 2 engineering college.
Depends ...usually startup and small size Companies do not necessarily demand MBA and are okay with domain knowledge and experience in working across multiple stakeholder and functional teams.
You can start with Asoociate role and also try for PM roles in start-ups
