What about a mid? Do you think it’s a good place to sharpen craft, or make work or meet people that could land you in a top shop?
Oh and jr’s get OT pay, transpo, & food those are all good perks
Depends on how little.
Intern: amazing.
Jr Freelance: good, but not amazing. You’ll have to keep seeking out new work as you’re constantly forgotten.
Jr FT: really depends on what account you’re on
@OP It depends on you personally. I really enjoyed Chick-fil-A and Army (though that was mostly because I had an awesome team). Qualcomm can be fun, if you’ve got a nerdy side. Really, any of them can be good. I’d just avoid Verizon. The McCann Team on it is amazing, but the clients will drive you insane with last minute asinine changes that gut your ideas.
@SrCW1 I honestly don’t know many mid-levels there. Most of the Jrs go off somewhere else after a couple years, from what I’ve heard. But there’s definitely an amazing group of people to learn from. From Lizzie and Tali (Fearless Girl) to hands-on GCDs like Dov Zmood, you’ll find a ton of people to help hone your craft. I left with a couple pieces for my book (started as an intern and left as a Freelance Jr on really good terms).
Thanks for the insights cw1!
Can someone provide some perspective on the account mgmt department (guessing it depends on account )
Hey! Junior at McCann here!
If you get in as an intern it can be great my partner and I got to touch at least 10 accounts before we were picked for a team & hired on full time, but it’s also really tricky to get raises & negotiate things like promotions unless you produce something that runs nationally or win something.
Even beyond just the jr level. I know a few sr teams who have left because of the lack of upward movement when they were producing kickass stuff.
Agree with @CW1 on avoiding Verizon.
But also don’t be afraid to take a position on the social team either for the general social team, in XBC or at m-united. You can prove yourself there & get to make some cool stuff (they get pulled for a lot of activations smaller digital spots & get to travel)
Informative! Thank you :), what accounts do you recommend pushing for FT?
