I’m an operations manager for a coding vendor and to maximize your earning potential I recommend getting a CCS certification from AHIMA. Inpatient coding pays considerably more than outpatient coding. We are hiring inpatient coders at $35 an hour all fully remote. After gaining experience coding, I recommend setting a goal to be an auditor. Then you could move into education or management which have six-figure potential.
No, you do not have to have a CPC for a period of time before obtaining a CCS. They are separate certifications from separate organizations. The AAPC issues the CPC certification and AHIMA issues the CCS. CPC is more outpatient based and the CCS is more inpatient. I recommend visiting both the AAPC and AHIMA websites to learn more. They both have career guides and salary comparisons.
What is considered "good pay" though?
How long did it take you to become a medical coder auditor?
I started out as an anesthesia coder. It was a great choice when I started ten years ago. I have since, been a coding supervisor, a coding educator and auditor and now a coding manager. I make well over 6 figures and I still do contract coding as a secondary income. The potential for promotion and to make a descent living wage, in my opinion, is great. Good luck.
I started 30 years ago in medical billing and coding. I love it , I have accomplished two businesses. I just sold one and stay with one. I never expected how much I have accomplished as a certified Medical biller and coder. Get into credentialing also. You will love it go a long way.
Im just starting out. My work has offered an apprentice program. Should be able to obtain my cpc credential in Jan. Have a job lined up through my work as soon as get certification. I was in ROI release of information but i feel this will be a better route. Its true its hard to get a step in the door. Glad i found my way in!
Grab this opportunity!
I have a friend who is in medical billing and coding. She absolutely loves it. She makes great money and works from home full time.
Yes! This field has so many potential and advancement opportunities. In addition, you can also make a hefty amount of money. Win-win situation.
Yes it is. When I was earning my bachelor's in science, I learned about medical billing. I took coding 1 and 2 as electives, and it was one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. Looking forward to pursuing a career in it (i need to find my way in). I would suggest thinking about obtaining a certificate from the AAPC to give you a little bit more of a benefit.
Hi, Coding does pay more especially if you get certified. I am currently in school for billing and coding. And we are definitely going to be taking the exam at AAPC
Can anyone recommend a good online program or an on-site location close to south Chicago land area? I have contemplated for years to look into medical billing and coding but most programs I found were billing or coding never both.
The job outlook is good & the average pay is better than the pay for pharmacy techs. It's not a bad career. What makes you want to switch?
I am just looking for a new career path to make more money in the future. Especially to have more chances to have a work from home job.
I thought about going into this but after talking to ppl in the business and how difficult it can be for a hospital to take a chance on you I decided to pursued credentialing
Credentialing is a vital process for healthcare institutions. In simple terms, credentialing is the process of assessing the academic qualifications and clinical practice history of a healthcare provider.
Is there a special education track for RN Coding or is it the same for anyone pursuing a certification in coding?

Hey guys, I’m currently a certified medical assistant. I work in PA. I graduated 2 years ago and I’ve been at my current job for 2 years. I have now finally reached $20 where I started at $16.
I’m currently thinking of switching careers. I’m thinking of going back to school for 9 months for my billing and coding. But I’m wondering if it’s a good career path and the pay is worth it? I know you can work from home so that’s a plus. But the pay is what I’m wondering where it’s ranging here in PA.
