Hello, everyone! I am new to fishbowl, the Healthcare field, and fairly new to my company. One of my primary goals, besides finding the highest quality talent to join our team, is to expand my network. If anyone here is willing to send me a LinkedIn connect request I would be very appreciative! It will be a mutual benefit, I assure you.

I think you should get a leave of absence but it probably will not be paid. Family is more important than the paycheck
Do the right thing by your family spend time with your father... job is replaceable family is not.. whatever talk you have with HR document everything
Either way, please please take the time to be with your family. There are a million things in this world more important than this job and that is the top of the list. Thinking of you @op
Not sure about short term disability; that's handled through whatever insurance the firm has so it might be worth a shot. Usually it's restricted for medical purposes. Sounds more like a leave of absence or sabbatical would be more appropriate.
I don't know you're setup but if you have a coach or mentor talk to them. We would deft let anyone in a similar situation leave here. Like EY said through sabbatical or loa
You can always get approval for a leave of absence. Especially in this instance. I know plenty of people that have done it.
Isn't that fmla?
KPMG lets employees donate PTO in cases similar to yours so you can maintain your current salary. Not sure how RSM works but it's definitely worth telling HR your situation and asking what your options are.
I can't concentrate, my dad is in hospice care and has only a few weeks and I've used all my pto. I'm not effective to my team right now but I can't pull myself together
I know it is just one more stressor, but the problem is taking it unpaid... but I guess that is better than nothing
If you can get your doctor to sign off then you can take short term disability. When I took it for stress (had a nervous breakdown, woo) all I had to do was go to my doctor, notify HR, and then dealt directly with the insurance company and my doctor.
Are you in California? You would qualify for six weeks of paid family leave. It's at the most 55℅ of your check. But it's something
I am sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad earlier this year. You can take FMLA but will not be paid. If you have a good doctor, one that knows you, they could set it up where you can take short term disability.
Short term disability is paid out through the insurance company. You'll need to inquire with your benefits coordinator to and review the plan document in-order to determine what things qualify for Short Term Disability. At a minimum the insurance company is going to require a doctors note stating that you are unable to work for whatever time you take off.

I know it doesn't help you, but Deloitte's new family leave policy provides 16 weeks paid leave to care for an ailing parent, among other life events.
If you have a doctor determine that you are mentally unable to handle work then yes it will count as medical. We had someone's dad pass away and they tried to come back too soon and ended up leaving for a few months because they just needed the time. I believe they received like 80% pay the first few weeks, 60% the next few, etc. down to being unpaid
Btw Hun- I'm so terribly sorry you are going through all of that :( I hope everything works out
I took FMLA unpaid leave when my mom was dying. Worth it. Take the unpaid leave. I was wreck and honestly I wasn't earning my salary anyway. Firm was great about it.
