Politics aside, who still sends email forwards?!? I mean, it's 2017, and emails from the 90s are still being circulated!
Yea. My aunt still forwards the "Send this to 10 people you love or you'll have bad luck for the next 7 years"🙄
PWC2 my 93YO father in law uses text, mom in law still records things on paper calendars - 3 of them, my mom uses text, dad has a flip phone and can't spell email

What constitutes a "chain"?
I see where you're going, but I didn't say we'd be free of all "forwarding," I said "email chains," operative word: "email." Social media is quite easy to filter. When your mom shares the "I love my pets like if you do too" page's video, you can hide all content from the "I love my pets like if you do too" page. Email, on the other hand, is harder to filter effectively. You never know if you mom is emailing you to tell you that your favorite uncle, John, died and named you in his will as sole beneficiary to his large estate, or if she's going to send you a zombie (raised from the dead) political email chain from 1997.
It's a difference in communication styles - we seldom use email in our family (use text messaging) so don't have an issue of this sort.
Well in my family, my sister and I use text with everyone, my dad responds to the texts, but his primary way of initiating communication is email (though he doesn't do forwards)... my mom however. Fuck man. She's all over the place. Mile and a half long texts, 3 day long Facebook posts, rapid fire sharing of shitposts from every radio station page on the eastern seaboard, email, Facebook messenger, shares from websites via email, email chains, SNAIL MAIL. Fuck.

It took me about 10 years, but I finally got my mom to check Snopes.com before forwarding me an email about people stealing your organs in Vegas, or Bill Gates curing Tiny Tim's cancer if only I forward his email to 900 friends.
