Is one’s network with their current firm overrated when it comes to jumping to another firm for a raise (especially at junior levels)? Always hear network is a reason to stay, but at what price...

If you can get paid more for doing the same work elsewhere, not sure how network really plays a significant factor Applies to people with less than 10 years experience. More than that, network begins to matter more I feel like. Thoughts?

I’d put it at 5 years, not 10. But yes, changes are easier when you’re younger.

Network matters very early and much later on. I think you can benefit overall from a transition to a new firm when the time is right. You'll always be able to go back to your old firm if you know people. Leave if something good comes your way

I went from a place that network wasnt a huge deal to a place where network is important and I found how difficult it was to restart building relationships, having said that, it seems to have been easier at the lower level where expectations are not quite as high as more senior people

If youre switching you likely are because pay has fallen behind or you didnt get promoted when you think you should have. You are starting 100% new at the new firm so dont expect a raise or promotion right away since you wont have many people that know you.

Don’t make a decision just for the money. Generally yields bad results. Other than the money, what are the real reasons for moving. Relationships are harder to build in older years because by then most people have their networks pretty mature

Hi fishes I'm being constantly denied opportunities to grow and being targeted by a female manager for a rating discussion which happened a year ago . She is literally dropping allegations over me in managers meets which are false and some how my coach is also with her. My current year performance is well, with highest quality yet I'm not being considered for promotion.I'm seriously trying to look out but not getting any calls, what options do I have, can I raise this to intigrity helpline ??

Can we talk about sabotage? It’s not talked about enough yet it happens often in our field. I’d love to hear other’s encounters. For context- by sabotage, I mean someone has purposefully acted in a way that hurts you in a career/promotion/etc sense. Also knowingly. Most importantly... how do you move on from it? How do you turn the negative into fuel ⛽️ to overcome and later on (down the line) become stronger...and maybe destroy them? Kidding to a slight degree

Hi Friends, I need urgent help. Suppose in experience letter my designation is test specialist but in candidate form of EY I gave senior test specialist. Will it be problem? Actually after getting promotion I thought I became senior test specialist so gave senior test specialist in EY form. As next band is for senior people and I wrote as senior test specialist. But later I saw it was test specialist designation in my current company. Will that create problem in verification?

Lateraled to a new firm ~2 months ago and have a planned vacation coming up in 1 month (this was planned way before the move, even before I had considered interviewing). Recruiting and the head of my practice group gave me the OK on the vacation before I joined, but I’m still stressed about telling people I’m about to go on vacation as a new joiner to the firm. Words of advice/good vibes/etc., all greatly appreciated.

Hello fishies! Curious to know everyone’s experience with networking during a transition. When chatting with someone who is trying to pivot into a new role, do you find that they often withhold saying anything negative or potential conflicts/challenges about the team dynamic or role itself. Do you find yourself doing this? If so, why? It seems like only benefits the employer and keeps employees in a perpetual state of discomfort. Thanks
