Bonus likely prorated.

Depends on firm. There is a min that is paid and then you can sometimes go on leave and get paid up to a cap I think through a gov program.

helpful

There are quite a few states that require paid leave. NY/MA/CT to name a few offhand.

Depends on firm. I had 16 weeks paid and then took an additional 8 weeks unpaid. My bonus was prorated.

Check firm policy. My firm is 6 months off then 6 months 75% time, all with 100% pay

like

It usually is, but check your firm policies. In many states, there is a paid leave parental leave program too, but the pay is capped at statutory amounts that are likely far lower than your regular weekly pay.

I bet the majority of biglaw associates work in one of those 9 states, with TX being the obvious exception.

My firm offers full pay and doesn’t pro-rate the bonus.

529 Plan VERSUS Prepaid

We live in Florida and currently have a Freshman in High School and a 16 month old. We hear from our friends and family with college bound children "I wish we would have done Florida PrePaid." After obviously ignoring this for years, we are finally trying to do it before "it's too late" for both children.

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.

Also found out they ask you not to reapply for 1 to 2 years for same role. Would anyone recommend an alternate path for feedback on interview (outside of recruiter) and is the 1-2 year policy true?

Summer Reading.
I've just started (finished the introduction only), but already I would recommend highly to anyone claiming the name of Jesus Christ as our Lord and highest authority. The author is a brilliant man I've listened to for years. There may be some here who won't like it, but I would encourage Christians everywhere to take a step back and think about what is going on here. This *will* affect the way we do life & our jobs, as well as the way we love one another as Christ has commanded.

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!

This job is a lot better if you don't care about the bonus and hours requirement. I can pretty easily bill 1700 hours annually and my firm so far hasn't cared in the slightest. Worrying about hitting 2000 hours for the bonus used stress me out so much, and I just don't think it's worth it. Base salaries are ridiculous and way more than enough to finance my lifestyle.

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

Consider this…
