Is PwC the only Big4 forcing people back to the office by October?

Another thing to consider: the hybrid sounds great and all but when people start going back, the expectation to be back in the office increases. You see more overachievers show up and they will eventually make the ones who WFH have to hurry up and go back. Then the hybrid will die.

Exactly my thought. We are soo short staffed, I think this is pwcs plan. By January everyone will be back full time.

I’m going to work on negotiating for fully remote unless something is truly needed for travel for limited training, etc a few times a year. Otherwise will go to another Top 25 who offers this perk. After 1.5 years fully remote I just can’t handle a commute back and work these hours my way.

This is the way.

Are they doing this? Because my team that I have an offer from said I can be remote and that they don’t care…

Miami had no office so… No

Were you watching the same webcast I watched? Because that’s not at all what Tim said. It was about NOT having a set of rules for coming into the office and being flexible to meet client and team needs. Some of our offices are closing and being combined, and others are reducing space, so there’s not even room for everyone to come into the office.

After the webcast my partner basically said the expectation is you are back in the office at least a few times a week starting in October

They’re the trend setters

Since when did PwC force anyone to go back in October? Office will be open but you don’t have to go in

like

I wasn't paying full attention, but all I heard they expect you to be in office 1-3 days of the week 85% of time (which I interpreted as 85% of the weeks available). This seems very reasonable to allow you to attend office trainings and social events in person. Even still, no word that this would be mandatory, just expectations. And yes, it would affect your rating (I didn't hear this specifically, but it's a given). Part of how you're evaluated is how flexible and integrated you are with the firm and team. That has always been the case, at every firm. Ability to mentor staff, collaborate with your team, and shifting schedule to unexpected requests are all attributes required for promotion and higher tiering. Every person is different, so your willingness and capability to work with someone who performs more efficiently in a office setting rather than remote is definitely something subject to evaluation.

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

Damn. Was lucky enough to land an interview. The interview went numerous rounds, it was super positive, so then I decided I would be 100% honest about something I wasn’t good at, in hopes of being clear that I was ready to grow. Then I got ghosted, and I think it’s because of the said honesty. Feeling low and stupid for ever admitting a “fault” in an interview instead of just telling them that I’m perfect.
