I am going through interview at the moment and the team is asking to make a fully detailed project plan along with a contingency plan for a marketing automated engine knowing :

The design team includes graphic, web, and digital designers (who are operating at 100% capacity for the next 4 weeks)
Solutions team that includes developers and tech specialists (who are at 80% capacity)
R&D team (who are at 50% capacity)
Acquisition team (who are at 100% capacity for the next 2 weeks).

Human interest stories might not be where the money is, but making the switch has saved my sanity after the tragedy I’ve covered the past few years.

I dropped emails complaining the same..

There’s a partner in a different office that is going to give me a crappy review in December. Partner won’t let me get off the matter that I am on with him. My hours are too high and I can’t prioritize this matter.

What’s the best way to handle it? He is completely hands off and then gets pissed when stuff doesn’t get done the way he wants it. I don’t actually fully know what is going on.

Tie on day one or nah?

At what point should I be worried about my ability or inability as a lawyer? I’m a first year, but feel as though my office has very high expectations from top to bottom. Often placed on cases alone with a partner who is too busy to answer questions. Other times mid-levels sort of deflect when they don’t clearly communicate what they want done (e.g., “draft part of this brief” and gets upset when it isn’t up to snuff). Mainly, I am worried that I am failing at this and am not a good lawyer.

How to deal with certain partners asking you not to bill time spent on matter specific billing/WIP updates? This is starting to eat into my billables but I get that the partners don’t want the write offs affecting their metrics.

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that firms require a minimum daily time entry? For example, my firm requires us to bill 6 hours a day, whether or not it’s billable work, we have to have a minimum of 6.0 in our time entry system every day or we get flagged. If we’re on vacation we have to pre-bill 6.0 a day. Why the hell do firms do this???

Anybody heard of stories of lawyers who went into banking but later regretted? One of my coworkers made the transition to investment banking recently and it’s making me itchy and wanting to the same. But I also don’t have any clue what life will be like in investment banking.
