Is rental market slowing down? My apartment used to be always full, but I am seeing some vacancies. They raised the price over 10% compared to last summer though.

Seeing more and more vacancies in Marina del Rey too

There’s probably some vacancies as landlords can evict again. But it will quickly rebound as LA has always been an extremely tight rental market.

What you are probably seeing right now is the normal seasonal drop from USC and UCLA students going home for the summer. Vacancies will drop again by August.

Outside of South Central all of the LA basin is “student housing area” and occupancy rates therein have a ripple affect across the rest of the city. Both schools have very wide socioeconomic bands, so their populations hit more evenly across rental housing price ranges than you would see in typical college towns.

This is great news! Hoping for more vacancies well into early 2023. We want to move asap!

Hello All,

About 6 months ago I began a paid internship as an electrical engineer. They recently gave me a notice that my internship ends at the end of August. I asked if there's something they could do to hire me on permanently. They tell me to apply to jobs on the website. I was told that internships only go for 1 year. Other interns are there that haven't been told this. Mind you I am a female where the others are males.

Guy I am dating for last 3 months asked me to attend Mother’s Day lunch/dinner with his whole family. I haven’t met any one of them on a 1-1. While I am somewhat comfortable with him, I am an introvert and don’t like to be around groups of people. We usually spend a weekend night together. However, after I gently said no and told him I d feel comfy to first meet his family members 1-1, he seemed to be a little aloof and left early. I like the guy a lot. We aren’t at the typical marriageable age

I feel like there are talks of a “California Exodus” that happens every 10 years.

But with the pandemic, people’s loss of faith in CA politics, transplants moving back home, and people opting to move either to more suburban cities or out of state for cheaper housing options because they’ll be WFH permanently, do you guys think that this time around, a “California Exodus” actually has legs?

As a native Angeleno, I’m interested to see how much the city will change after this pandemic.
