Just from the information you've provided, I'd advise against going from digital/social to emails. After all, you can make award-winning work in the social space.
But if I was you, I'd weigh the opportunities outside of those spaces at each agency. How much mobility is there at your current gig versus the new one?
Eventually you want to angle your way onto bigger projects. So compare each opportunity in that regard. Are there potential mentors? How many "bigger projects" are there in the building? And how many people get a crack at them?
Don’t do it if broadcast and 360 campaign experience is the goal. Be realistic about what you want to add to your portfolio. Have you ever received an email from any brand and thought, “Yeah, I’d put that in my portfolio?” But if you want to take it for the cash, you’ll have to do a lot of freelance and side projects to keep your book well-rounded.
What they said. I don’t know how good/bad your agency is, but social CAN be creative and lead to opportunities. Emails definitely can’t.
Dude writing only email copy sounds mad boring. Unless you seriously need cash, keep plugging on social/digital. Every client wants a savvy social writer, and at least it's a medium that you actually might enjoy more (when was the last you were "holy crap I love this marketing email?")
New opportunities will come.
Thanks everyone!! This was helpful and as much as I’m tired of social at times, it can be fun and creative. I’m just eager to try my hands at another medium 🤞🏻
That's totally understandable. And in that case, I'd highly suggest that you enter as many competitions, like Young Lions, as possible.
Not only is it a break from the more monotonous work, it's good practice to keep the creative wheels turning. And if you win, you'll likely have a more opportunities open up for you.
Don’t do it.
Is there a way to take that job and freelance for agencies?
