Is taking the sabbatical offered by pwc, career suicide... in a time when utilization matters so much?

M1 is right. If NY, don't do it.

like

Do it and enjoy it, it’s is not career suicide

like

If in NYC, might I recommend leaving NYC? Ive worked in 5 different PWC offices. NYC, and the general mindset of the people in that office, were my least favorite.

like

Agree with P2, I’ve been at the other big firms. Met some of the worst dregs of society in PwC NY MC. Which surprises me, because people say Deloitte is a snakepit!!! Unless you belong to that category of people, I recommend you look for the earliest exit opportunity.

like

No one will be fired for taking a sabbatical

like

M1 is right. My demand Manager seemed to be under a lot of pressure. Now is not a good time.

like

Take time off, go to Europe, enjoy the sabbatical, you earned it. If things are really as bad as others are saying you may just be let go and loose the opportunity

like

Probably, the partners in PwC are C****. If you’re in NY, don’t do it

like

@P3, of course they won’t cite sabbatical as a reason! your other point is obvious!! Yes, not taking a sabbatical does not preclude you from being on the hit list.

like

Manager sabbatical..mentally drained but know it will destroy my utilization and feel like it makes me look weak.

like

If you’re a manager don’t do it, they say you can come back but that’s not a promise that will be kept

like

Don't do it right now. Combine it with winter break.

R u going to take responsibility for OP if he gets fired P3? The business has been performing miserably and the leadership is in a mess. Everyone knows that!.........I’d err on the side of caution OP! Your choice at the end of the day!

Are we talking Director sabbatical? If so, use away. Other type? Proceed with caution.

I'd say depends on your practice. It sounds like FS is doing poorly but CM has basically no one on the bench.

If it's the director sabbatical, there's a big push to let people take these (and also paternity leaves). They are concerned about retention right now so don't rule it out.

What is CM?
