Is teeth whitening through your dentist worth it? Or do crest whitestrips or whitening strips actually work?

Have been getting good results with charcoal. Give it a try.

Start with white strips

My dentist loves to upsell me on stuff (he's a friend and my insurance has always been good) but whenever I ask about this he says just to use the strips because they're the same.

Crest strips are cheaper and work well

All my friends swear by crest strips

I do crest strips right after cleanings then maintain alternating between arm and hammer whitening booster and charcoal powder. But obviously it all depends on sensitivity, etc

I had trays made by my dentist several years ago, and now I buy the “poladay” brand whiting gel on Amazon (dentist up-charge was ridiculous). I go with the 9.5% hyrdrogen peroxide; the higher amounts made my teeth sensitive for days.

Dental will cover teeth whitening with certain dentistries...

Maybe he’s not upselling you on it because he doesn’t make (much) more money off of it...

I don't think insurance would cover this either way, so he would be setting his own rates. I don't think it's about profitably for him.

Try groupon for zoom whitening

I’ve found teeth whitening to be better. The result is very noticeable and lasts longer and it’s more convenient. Twice a year for 15 to 25 mins versus putting gum-burning strips on my teeth every single day with less noticeable results

Dentist said they could do it for $250, don’t believe it’s covered by insurance. I’m not too yellow, I’m actually closer to the whiter end of the spectrum by like 2 shades but I fear if I keep drinking tea the way I do, that’ll change. I use whitening toothpaste (which is maybe why I’m on the whiter end already?) so was just wondering if it was worth the investment to get it professionally done or just use the strips or kits.

I’ve done both - neither really did anything. I find since I’ve been using a water pik my teeth are whiter.

Crest white strips work well, have used them many times
