Move to industry. I started in October and they keep saying “after the holidays we will...”. It’s funny, they all consider 1/5 of the year as non productive time. I also work for the president and he tells me most days at 4 pm he is “off to raise humans”. It’s a better life. 🤣

Sounds like you don't work at Slalom

If "that good" means working 40 to 45 hours most weeks with people you enjoy working with and not worrying about an up or out culture, then yes, it's "that good".
But definitely sounds like you work for Kearney!!
Yea consulting is hella toxic. Get out if you can
It is backwards and exhausting. Firms play on everyone's need to be in the "upper right quadrant" while rarely providing the support required (understaffed and overpromised). Then because "everyone is doing it", you look crazy/ lazy for seeing the dysfunction.
It's not you. It's the industry. Find a new job.
Depends on the firm and role. But If everyone around you is doing it then that’s what’s considered the minimum requirement. That’s how stacking works.
I’ve never heard the term stacking before!
Find a firm or practice that aligns with your mentality. For instance at Deloitte that would fly in GPS(federal) or maybe staff aug work, but if you’re in M&A, Strategy, or Org Effectiveness, that’s just life.
It’s all about what you value. If you want to do the sexy, strategic, value-add work with higher paying exit opps you’ve got to grind incredibly hard, if you’re good with implementing cookie cutter ERP solutions or outsourcing then you can absolutely find that WLB.
Unless you are a software engineer, that can be equally toxic outside of the consulting world, at least from my experience. There are chill roles and projects out there, but just harder to find.
