Hello guys,
I am a BCA grad and have 4.5 YoE in cyber security particularly cloud security now. I want to go to US/Canada/EU but not very much inclined towards doing MCA or MBA.
I want to know is there any way we can get a job from India or should I consider doing some 1 year course of Cloud security/architect from US universities.

Lots of things going for it. I took it as a “mommy track” gig and it’s awesome for that. I’m too competitive for own good though. And also like the biz development aspect of practice.

Not always. Some are sorta. Some work too hard and do much of what a partner does for a lot less money. Others have figured out how to set boundaries and do much less work still for great money. There is so much variation among counsels both in terms of pay and responsibility. It can be fantastic or crap depending on what you’ve been able to craft. The counsels who have figured it out are often the happiest people at the firm, but most of them haven’t figured it out.
Agreed ! I just didn't realize that so many big firms still had the practice. amazing

Depends on the firm. In either case, you’re a senior lawyer with a salary instead of shares.
At my firm, it’s basically a senior associate.

Without bonus. My bonus is based on hitting 1800 but I know other counsel with 1600 threshold, and others where the bonus is tied to business generation $$.

Not really. Counsel do the same types of work as the NEP but are even less relevant to the firm’s management.

At my last firm the counsel acted like a partner in terms of being a jerk and arrogant. Constantly kissed up to the partners by bullying the associates. But definitely paid less than partners and no equity share. It was the “carrot” to keep folks motivated
Depends on the firm. For us, it's a bridge for associates who aren't quite ready on the BD side to be NEPs, but who the firm a) wants to retain and b) expect can make it to NEP. Basically your work product and collections are NEP level, but you don't have the originations to be considered a NEP yet.
This is me at my firm.

I don’t think counsel have to so firm management tasks like junior partners. So that’s a plus in my book.

No- Under the ABA guidance the counsel title means someone with a looser affiliation with a firm. So, for example, someone who holds political office or has other significant civic responsibilities. A NEP on the other hand is dedicated full time to the firm. There are, of course, counsel who have a very close relationship with the firm and seem more like NEPs but I always wonder why they have the counsel title in that case- maybe personal preference.
Coach
This is definitely not how my firm uses the counsel title. It’s a position in between associate and partner. Most eventually make partner but not all.
