Firms are trying to make 3 days a week the norm, but it's already a lost cause. They'll never be able to enforce those policies. They are really just for tax/employment law purposes. Most people I talk to are either self selecting into regular office attendance or are ok with 1 day per week. I go in 1 day per week max plus try to go to firm events. It has really showed me that minimal effort is really all it takes to keep the in office people happy. They ire is really directed at those who opt out entirely

I was able to leverage a fully remote position in an office that requires people to come in 3 times a week. So I think remote work, or at least hybrid, is going to stay the norm for most associates, since we are pushing back hard on the RTO policies. I hope so at least.
Similar in that my firm requires a 2-3/day hybrid schedule. Strongly encouraged but not really enforced. I’ve been holding the line with other associates and so far we’ve been billing higher hrs full remote than when we tried the hybrid schedule intermittently. We’ll see how long we last.
Personally, one of the partners I work a lot with comes to the office 3 days a week so I try to come in on the same days to make things easier if we need to discuss anything quickly (I also enjoy working with this partner). People at my firm seem to come in voluntarily but probably less than 3 days a week on average, and it’s not strictly enforced. The firm head shared recently that they don’t see the current policy to change in the foreseeable future.
As long as people are billing, that’s gonna be the main component. They wanna keep the money coming in and people happy. A lot of people are willing to walk away from money and make less just to have work life balance.
The bottom line is work from home and in office is equivalent to going from a rotary phone to my cell phone and why would they make us go back to a rotary phone? I think they’re also saving on utilities and water in a lot of things that are use when people are in the office.

The firm I just left was flexible, another I spoke to had a 3 days in policy, and where I’m going expects on-site.
That said, the commute is half, and I want to be in office at this time.
