Peeps working in London, is £43K a livable salary there? Thinking of a potential transfer from the US but looks like the starting salary I’ll get is £43K, which is a pay cut from the US market.

Any recommendations on how to mentally check-in in the morning? Doesn't seem to matter what I do. I get enough sleep, work out in the morning a couple times a week, manage my caffeine intake (a cup of coffee still only helps a little), and have a basic morning routine I follow. I'm not a morning person, but can fake it when I'm with people. When I don't have to interact with people (calls) I'm easily distracted and have a hard time focusing in on anything.

Can anyone provide insight on the work life balance of tech transactions practice area in big law? Is it as unpredictable/ intense as corporate? How often do you work evenings/weekends?

What are reasons you would stop giving work to a newly minted second year associate? Stuck because people have never given me bad feedback but also don’t give me work. Transactional.

Did you ever had this feeling of not fitting in? People (including non-legal staff) in my team just ignore me. I know I made some mistakes, but resenting a trainee for that reason seems unfair. Just went to farewell drinks of an associate and only two persons out of 14 actively engaged conversation with me. With the rest I had this feeling of forcing everything and of being the awkward one. People were referring to funny stories on cases we’re working on and that I never heard about.

Took the afternoon off. Totally have stuff I could be working on but I’m too burnt out to care. Cooked a nice dinner for my husband and me (cooking is relaxing for me),and enjoyed a bottle of wine together… and just… talked. Hope you all can find moments like this too while doing this job.

Hi all! Staff Attorney who was hired to do something very specific at a BL firm. My manager has been very restrictive in what I’m allowed to do for fear that it’ll get in the way of my speciality work, even though all the partners and associates love me and are always asking me to work on deals with them. Because it’s been slow my hours have been down and my manager is back tracking and saying that I can do whatever I want. What do I when it comes to review time?

Wondering about potential exit/in-house opportunities for different practice groups. I’m currently in big law and choosing between general corporate deal work (M&A/PE) and tech transactions. Do either of these give better in-house (or other) opportunities later on?

I sometimes wonder what goes on under the skin of those "perfect, well-dressed, good-looking, high-performing, never-stressed" usually male attorneys. I get the impression that many are hiding things.
