There is no stigma for going after 4 years vs. 3 years.
The general rule of thumb is that you should only go to business school when you are ready and can get the most out of the experience. Being financially stable is a plus
Nope. While being a lifer is not the norm (e.g., Associate to PL/P), no one (either at BCG, with b-school admissions committees, or with future employers) will bat an eye at your tenure at BCG. That said, many people find that having a second job after BCG / before b-school can be helpful in providing clarity about your career goals, etc. - which can help optimize what you get out of b-school
Sorry but this question is so lame. Do you care about you education and obtaining knowledge or are you just doing it for the brag rights and image??? Your mindset sounds like you need to mature a but more to actually value what you will learn- if you want to learn at all...
Also ‘Princiap Designer’ (whatever that is), MBA is generally not about education but rather career advancement, so this question makes all the sense in the world. Only callout is that you will probably do one C case and then straight to PL on return, which can be a painful reentry
Hah I went at 7 years in
Forget about what other people think and focus on making your application the best it can be. I personally took an “extra year” since I wanted to gain more experience and challenging roles that could help differentiate my application from the tsunami of fellow consulting applications. In that extra year I was able to do two international projects and run a pro-bono consulting project on the side. None of those opportunities would have happened had I not taken an extra year and I’m 100% confident I would not have gotten into my top school had I applied in 3 years. You do you and you’ll have no regrets!
In some programs you can...
What a ridiculous question
There’s no right answer. Don’t worry about a “stigma” or what other people think, do what’s right for you. There are people who start full time programs with over 10 years of work experience.
Agree most non-sponsored people (like me - joined as a C post MBA) have 4+ years so no one outside your bubble will think much of it. That being said, it may be worth applying and deferring if you’re still not ready bc there’s a long time between starting R1 apps and starting class - you might be ready by the time it rolls around and then be kicking yourself that the app cycle passed you by
Deferring isn’t a thing
Many consultants wait until they’re at 4 years from other firms. I went after 3 and personally advise against it in most cases. Going to b school with 3 years experience will often put you in the youngest/least experienced 10% of your class
I’m doing it after 4 AMA
Huh?
