GF just got a job in Fort Worth and for anyone who lives in the DFW area... are there any POC that live in Fort Worth? lol we’re visiting and see mostly white people and not a whole lot of diversity?
Thoughts on ad agency diversity data, now that it’s being released? “Across the entire (Havas) organization in the U.S., 6.11% of employees are Black, 10.8% are Hispanic or Latino and 9.66% are Asian.”
Holy crap, is it common in professional services to openly refer to people as "diversity hires"? I mean I went to the same top 20 b school, paid the same $120k, got the same 650+ gmat.
I’m a mid-level working in a niche area in NYC. I like the work I do, put in long hours, high quality work, take time to mentor juniors, etc. I see myself at a law firm long term but now wondering if this is the right firm to make partner. Among others, one big concern I have is the non-existent emphasis on diversity and inclusion initiatives (they aren’t even pretending to care...), no committees, no statements in support of POC, etc. How do I find firms really committed to these issues?
The diversity officer at my old company:
"No, the Google manifesto isn’t sexist or anti-diversity. It’s science." Interesting take by (female) scholar: https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/no-the-google-manifesto-isnt-sexist-or-anti-diversity-its-science/article35903359/?ref=https://www.theglobeandmail.com&service=mobile
Do other firms have an Asian Diversity or affinity group? If so, what are some of the things the networks have done which have been helpful?
Happy Birthday America. As a 2nd generation American, I am thankful for my family, the abundant lucrative career opportunities, the diversity of people, food, cultures, experiences and landscapes, the excitement and buzz, the kindness and generosity of Americans who have opened doors for me and guided me to success, the innovative FAANG industry where I work, and the consistent kindness of my friends, colleagues and complete strangers - easily the nicest people in the Western world. Thanks.
Everywhere I go they just want female candidates! Seems like there is reverse gender biah happening
My work is highly focused on inclusion and today, while driving through the park, I felt bad for laughing at a group of larpers. They have nerf combat gear, too. I tried hard not to be insensitive to them being their true selves but i laughed … hard! And now I feel bad for laughing at them.
What qualities do you look for in a mentor, or if you already have a successful mentor/mentee relationship what makes them a good mentor for yourself? That is, if you had the option of choosing one. Same gender, ethnic bg, professional bg?
Some men aren’t sexist, they’re assholes and gender is irrelevant to them - it’s not always about you
Any women on here make significantly more than their (male) SO? I’m trying to be a good millennial and not tie my happiness to gender norms but every few months I get upset (cont)..
So how many more press releases of white women in leadership roles bragging about diversity will we admit they have taken over the conversation about diversity and are the only benefiting from it?
Do you show your human side at work? Also share your gender if you’re comfortable. I’m F and I generally do, but wondering if this is not perceived well. For example, sometimes I talk to my peers about my weekend plans, sometimes about how tired I am because of work, I recently had surgery and shared with them details about it.
What does everyone usually eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily? Please share your food journal, city, age, and (gender optional)
🤣 funny ass business newsletter on why your companies diversity efforts suck 🗑 https://diversitygrinch.substack.com
if I just don't show up at the client site, would I get fired immediately? Would I get severance?

Any FTI Consulting fishes can comment on the efficiency and responsiveness of the immigration law firm? Trying to see if it’s worth my time to jump ship right now
Best restaurant in LGA?
Which firm benefits/insurance should I enroll and skip? Will elect HSA and firm-paid disability insurance. How about employee critical illness insurance or long term care plan?
I have a potential opportunity in VC/PE but would have to take a significant pay cut for 2 years. Is giving up salary for 2 years worth the potential and equity opportunity down the road?
PwC people who recently joined. When do you receive the sign on bonus. I understand the pay cycle is every 15 days. Should I expect to get it in the very first pay check?
I only plan on staying in consulting for about 2 more years then off for an MBA. Would it be more worth it to take a level and pay raise at a different big4 moving to senior level rather than going to associate/analyst level at MBB? These are my two choices at the moment. I want to position myself best for post MBA jobs in industry. Salary will def be lower at MBB compared to the senior level at big4 so not sure if it’s worth the trade off in experience.
Does Deloitte Canada have an in-house immigration team that would be able to deal with LMIA or would they outsource?
Has anyone done EY interview via KPMG Laptop? Both firm uses MS Team so I am thinking about doing that.
I'm in final stage interviews with two companies, both of which I like and have expressed interest in giving a final offer. Company 1 is moving pretty quickly, but company 2 has gone a bit quiet. How do I nudge company 2 so that I can compare and leverage offers?
What’s a reasonable salary for a junior associate at a mid-size (150+) insurance defense firm? Is $100k w/bonus at 1900 billable hours fine?
When you think about an agency being a good or bad place to work, does it depend on the client you’re working on, or the culture of the agency itself?
I need to provide my availability for interviews next week but I’m working all day. Would it be okay to take a Skype interview during lunch, in my car, and explain that I am at work and cont.
Client was 30 min late to our call, and says I'll join "now", 5 minutes into the call, his phone rings and he says wait a second until I'm done. Never shows up. 😐🔫
What do you think about Growth Hacking? I am a Digital Marketing Specialist but I'm very fascinated by this world. What divides a DMS from a Growth Hacker? You think it makes sense to make a role change like this?
Feeling that my brain has been on “auto pilot” mode for years. I am Principal in one of the top consulting firms, promoted on fast track basis, so have not been “lazy” and doing good at work. But everything feels the same, nothing gets me intellectually stimulated anymore, and now I feel like if the trend continues, I might lose my ability to adapt and learn new things altogether. Does anybody else feel the same way? (Contd).
