Is there a brokerage firm that is well thought of, allows you to choose what you are invested in (i.e. I can choose my etfs and their allocation in the portfolio) AND automatically invests contributions without manual intervention?

I set up mine to auto buy mutual funds at VG.

I automatically invest money from my Ally account to my Schwab account, and then have automatic investment purchases set up in Schwab for SWTSX (total stock) and SWPPX (S&P500) twice a month.

It is so easy and I don't have to think about it at all!

You can set up automatic transfers & investments on Fidelity, but I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about

like

Last I checked, automatic investments on vanguard only work with mutual funds, not ETFs. I’d be thrilled if that’s changed though.

I think that you can set automatic deposits on Robinhood

From what I’ve heard, M1 finance may fit what you’re looking for. I personally haven’t used it.

Do people tend to age out of wanting to FIRE?

In your 20s-30s, you don’t know much, you’re told what to do, you have few financial resources so you are tied to your job. Under these circumstances it makes perfect sense why you would want to FIRE asap.

But eventually you advance up the ladder, you are now the boss and your people do all the grunt work. You also have built up expertise which makes the job easier. And you are making the best money of your life. FIRE is no longer so pressing.

Where can I start learning about retirement in America? I’m naive on the topic and originally from another country so I need reliable learning resources. I’m curious how much other people with similar incomes save/invest a year; I’m a 24M, making 70K a year in a HCOL city. I saved about $12K in my first year of working out of college, and I feel like that’s pretty good but I could’ve done better. My rent isn’t too pricey, but I went on 3 vacations, go out to the bars frequently, and spend pretty freely on food. Anyone care to share their income and corresponding savings for FIRE?

Mother has a decent nest egg ($3M) and lives in an extremely LCOL area. Currently manages money through RBC, however the fees are a gross operating expense of 0.36%. What do you all recommend? I’m not savvy enough to manage it myself however I know that fees can stack up and kill returns. Would appreciate any insight/advice/snark.
