Is there a chance EY and other firms shutdown at some point they have to take into consideration amount of mental stress and news from friends and family. Expectations to deliver with same timeline...

Hey OP, do you have any PTO set to expire in June? Might use it now. Are you alone? Might want to go quarantine with people if possible. Didn’t mean to undermine. Take care of yourself

I think everyone’s being a little unfair. I think OP is just saying that this is a very stressful and anxiety ridden time. For some of us, we are taking care of elderly family members or have kids at home, we have other ailments we can’t get treated, we have family in highly afflicted areas... so there’s a lot of worry there. And then from the other side we are getting an immense amount of pressure to work 24/7 at the threat of losing our jobs. The firm is doing what it can to support. But there need to be boundaries. Just because we are home doesn’t mean we are now on call 24/7. For many of this, this is what’s happening. If we are in it for the long haul, which we no doubt are, we need to manage stress and burnout. I know many who haven’t had a second to regroup. Many have had deaths to this virus and other impacts (cancellation of family gatherings etc), and yet we haven’t stopped working. Please have some sympathy and try to see where OP is coming from. People aren’t asking to do nothing or have an extended vacation. I know for me personally it’s a second to breathe and face what’s happening. And deal. And before yall get sassy: I’m working my ass off, have had a death in the family, family I can’t see, canceled events, family ailments I can’t treat and many other things. And I don’t think it’s wrong to just ask for a breather.

We are able to safely and comfortably work from home while still collecting our usual salaries. Many other companies have terminated employees. What more do you want? I wish more people would appreciate what they have and what the Firm is doing for us. I pray that God will bless us all with a grateful heart.

I agree with you PWC1. I am saying Whatever you said that should show up in emails from leadership then it is consistent with reality. It is just the sugar coated emails don’t match the reality. I am gathering that basically everyone is okay and thankful that they have a job so everything is okay. That argument makes perfect sense and if that is the case I am going to work to save my job! the firm should recognize that people like many on this thread are working in fear of getting laid off so are not raising any concerns even if overworked because they are thankful they have a job!

Contd - is not practical. In fact amount of hours worked has increased! Earlier Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons were lighter and now we have meetings lined up starting Monday morning .. even thursday evenings working until 6-7 PM same as earlier Tuesday and wed. Clearly working hours have increased instead of reduction given all the other things going on 😰 We get all good emails from leadership but in reality no one is giving slack on amount of work or client deliverables .. all the teams are expected to work in fact more than before! I understand technology enables to get work done remotely but this is misusing that privilege to fullest and now there are no real boundaries of work hours 😰

Hope they don’t shutdown. We all need to pay bills. Keep calm.

Right there with you. Don’t think a break is coming.

Sounds like an engagement management issue, not a firm issue. Have you raised the issue with your leadership?

I think it is management issue where .. in all firm emails directly or indirectly client is given preference. So if client has a deadline no one says no to it!

OP I understand the stress bc my engagement is like that right now, but I’m so thankful right now to have a job and to be mentally engaged/occupied during the week. There are many others that aren’t as fortunate as us. I had a death in my family this week and my team picked up on where I fell short and I feel absolutely blessed. If you feel like you need a mental break, I would just ask your team. I think we can all be compassionate and open during this time.

OP, I feel you on this. I live alone and this is taking a mental toll on me. We have 2 weeks to finish this engagement and the client has not mentioned any concern. My manager has not mentioned a deadline extension at all to them either. While I felt like WFH was doable, Friday my brain just burnt out since WFH feels like work 24/7 and no break to just enjoy being at home. I don’t know how this week will go but I do feel a lot of pressure and wish we got some break. Looking forward to hopefully being on bench for a couple weeks to relax.

with WFH arrangements rn, clients have agreed to pushback some of the timeline for everyone's safety. hasnt your EY office mgt acted on anything regarding covid?

I guess the key dependency there is “client have agreed” it varies client to client.

Our cyber leader said on our so hands that he didn’t expect is to work longer hours. In fact, work less and source time on mental health. This should be the message across the board. If you feel different then speak up!

I prefer to work from home. I am more relaxed. I can sleep more and end up working more. I think this experience should help our industry reduce our travels. Frankly I feel like I could go to my client site once a month and be more productive.

A lead on my team mentioned she is pregnant and she hasn’t made the news public and just informing me as a friend. we go live in summer, she won’t be due until fall but I feel project might need back up given the crazy hours in go live, should I inform SM or PPMD in confidence and look for an additional member? How do I go about this? Don’t want to betray her trust and at the same time do not want to risk project. Anyone been on this boat before?
