Yes. Partners at law firms most likely finally took Econ 101.

Yes. Honestly if no one matches this small increase, what are the actual consequences? Cravath, Kirkland, Skadden, and Sidley can all not match and law students will still choose these firms over milbank because of prestige. Same goes with laterals.

Now if this was a larger increase over market, then it might change things.

It's rather costless to apply to firms, so I would send some applications and see if anyone would bite (despite the after tax amount to be really small).

The amount of people, even attorneys, who can't separate out the policy merits of abortion from the issue of whether it is a constitutional right is disappointing. I consider myself pro-choice ---I believe states should allow it, that the federal government can pass a statute to guarantee it, and that FDA statutes and regulations will preempt any state trying to ban chemical abortions through FDA approved drugs. Dobbs at its core is a case about the Due Process Clause, not the policy of abortion
