Hi fishes, in urgent need of your suggestions.
One of my friend is having offer from Oracle Pune for software developer role in Oracle store team. but he does not have clear idea of the role whether it will be operations, support or development work.
Does anyone know what kind of work is there in store team. Also, is it possible to change the project once we get inside?
Urgent suggestions required...
Thanks!

I'm not satisfied with the role as I was expecting a senior role. I mailed HR about the same but it's been 10 days and still no reply.
So, can I get promoted the coming year as I will ge 6 YOE by June?? Any suggestions would really help. Thanks 😊

Designers are generally more executional and less conceptual than Art Directors. ADs work closely with CWs to come up with creative solutions whereas designers generally do not. Designers are more likely to see a piece through to the end, they have better design skills typically and can fully execute a piece. An Art Director might require assistance from someone else to see their vision fully come to life.
Hopefully I didn’t speak out of turn here, my AD and Designer friends.
Yes. One is a designer and the other is an art director. They are two different jobs with different responsibilities and skill sets
Designers design things. They focus exclusively on the craft of design. Art directors direct the art of the whole project including designers. Art directors will also choose and direct photographers, directors, illustrators and more while also doing basic design tasks but not usually high end finished products. Art directors are also half of the traditional concepting team and spend an equal amount of time as a copywriter working on that phase
You’re a senior account executive and you don’t know the difference between these two jobs?! That is insane.
It's not about being collaborative Grey 1. It's a different job. It's as simple as that. You don't go to the same school you don't need same skills. Art Director are conceptual they find ideas - they usually work with copywriter. They also oversee the whole project and they manage designers when they are senior. Designers focus on the craft they can be conceptual but on a design level. They rarely have to find advertising ideas or create campaign.
I wish 👆🏻 was the case at my agency
If you are at a truly collaborative place. The differences will be hardly noticeable. For the most part a Designer executes the decisions made by an AD. The AD does design as well but not to the extent of a Designer. As you can imagine, if you have a collaborative AD. As a designer, you will sometimes be welcomed to chime in on the art direction as well. Also, a lot of place have ADs start as Designers and then promote them to ADs.
It’s two different types of thinking with similar tools. Designers are typically better at execution. Art directors typically have to do more campaign thinking. At some agencies art directors are advertising idea people. Some ad agencies misuse designers to execute others ideas. Truly both are in the world of art and business and are best used in collaboration.
What are the differences between the two jobs? Just trying to better understand all agency roles.
Concur with AD1’s description. SrCW1 is describing the pitfall of how most agencies see the two careers being one, but their completely different skill sets that don’t always blend into one. You could grow in a design career from Jr. Designer to Design Director just like Jr. Art Directors move up in rank to Creative Director.
So you’re saying I fucked up, ACD1? If so please help me understand how (genuinely curious). I also agree with AD1’s description.
@WK1 they could have always been on accounts that don’t have creative. Totally possible depending on the agency.
