Not much difference. I love us too. Rebuilding network from scratch seems hard though...
Not sure why you are looking, but know that McK Partners can take it really personally if you leave for another firm, particularly BCG or Bain. So make sure you’re OK with damaging your network if it comes to that
OP...I can completely relate. I left the firm for precisely this reason. Expert APs and Sr Experts MAY (if at all) make partner, but are still a notch or two below generalist partners (source: my ex-DGL is a partner from the Expert path). I am in industry now, but am intrigued by BCG Principal level roles too. I’ll stay put for a couple years and then reevaluate.
Not sure about AP but at the partner level the way they pay out your shares of the partnership is different - McK profit shares whereas BCG is more eat what you kill, have heard of McK partners leaving for BCG for this reason
BCG1. You are mistaken. BCG partner comp is formulaic, and has sales as a factor. McK comp is more tenure based and less sales based. So you can earn more comp faster st BCG. (I had a BCG offer before coming here).
McK1 - that isn’t a good reason to switch. Over a few years you can earn plenty at both firms. It’s all about your network and ability to develop opportunities and deliver the firm. There is basically no difference between AP/P, except you’re likely to stay P a year or two longer.
OP bear in mind BCG has recently gone through title/level change (below) so if you make the switch (btw agree that having to build your network from scratch should be your main consideration) make sure you get like for like title:
Old title -> New title
. Principal 1st and 2nd year -> Principal (same if you are an expert)
. Principal 3rd and 4th year -> Partner (same if you are an expert)
. Partner and Managing Director -> Managing Director and Partner
. Associate Director (expert) -> Partner and Associate Director
. Director (expert) -> Partner and Director
All simple until you see e.g., BCG Platinion with MDs that do not have equity.. feels like the change just messes up things in the broader BCG universe, should have been thought through better
