Deloitte GPS Business Analyst vs Mercer Health Consulting Analyst?
Deloitte's offer is 7K more and in a cheaper area. Equal interest in both jobs, slight preference for Mercer for people + culture. Leaning towards Mercer because I graduate in Dec and can start in Jan vs having to wait until next summer for Deloitte + location (although higher COL)
Concerns:
Exit opportunities
Pigeonhole-ing myself into health consulting / How hard would it be to join Big 4 in a year or two if I don't like it

That’s because they bill everyone out at an MBA rate and make money hand over fist on the non-MBA staff 😂
Deloitte also bills way more for managers without paying managers way more. Client rates are set based on supply and demand in the consulting services market, our wages are set based on supply and demand in our labor markets. No surprise there.
Nope.
What a fucking joke. So there’s no reason to favor one over the other for staffing, but when it comes to paying you, it’s just shaft the non MBAs. Ugh I REALLY dislike this industry...
Nope but the expectations are certainly different. It’s not unusual to charge and slot a target MBA hire into a manager role- leading to a much faster ramp up expectation. I’ve seen most succeed and some fail miserably....the ones that don’t typically don’t stick around for long so the firm makes its money one way or another.
This might set off some flames. MBA, no mba makes no difference in the consulting or audit industry. I have had Harvard mbas work for me over the years. One was a complete idiot. Pedigree means nothing after your first job. I have worked for some of the biggest names in industry and I am many years into my career. My advice. Be really good at what you do. Pick a specialty while still being well rounded. The rest will fall into place.
