I don’t know with ID. Only ever did reinsurance monitoring or litigation in BL. But generally the more complex/uncommon the claim. The more likely the insurance co is to pay reasonable rates and treat you like an attorney.
I do bad faith on the plaintiff’s side. I’m relatively new to it and never wanted to get involved in plaintiffs work or insurance defense before. A good opportunity (financially) presented itself, and I thought, “What the heck? I’ll give it a try.” Defense counsel can be fairly diverse. In health insurance cases, opposing counsel is usually from a big law firm. With it auto cases, we get some big law and some ID firms. With our property cases, we usually get smaller boutique firms. Overall, the bad faith cases are more complex than the few personal injury cases we take. Especially the property and health insurance cases, which involve a lot of construction or medical questions in addition to policy interpretation.
I think it’s a subtype of ID if you are retained by the insurance company, reporting to them, etc.

A bit. It’s still lower rate work that hasn’t had sustainable rates for a while. But few things still do.
