When do offers expire? Joined McK as an analyst 5 months ago and also had BCG and Bain offers. Landed in two very challenging set ups (mostly content was extremely complex and clearly affected my performance). Though I didn’t yet receive my official reviews, I’m foreseeing some trouble that would probably affect my ability to get staffed in what I want in the future. Think it’d be great to start over somewhere else, but not sure if those offers are now void Boston Consulting Group Bain & Company

Yes there is prestige. Even if you do go to the same events, you will most likely stay in different hotels or have different dinners to attend but most importantly you will have a different salary, different bonus and a slightly different brand. I do think you have some practice areas that are opening up to the importance of the digital, gamma and platinion teams but arguably not fast enough. If we don’t invest more here, we will get left behind. Build and implementation is just as important but I do think it still takes a backseat here but it may simply be because we are just far too expensive.
Outside of BCG, it really depends who your next potential employer would be. Do they know the split of our business or do they just see BCG and recognize it as a great firm? I think this you could manage quite well but I would just think what you are looking to get from this role.
What the heck this isn’t true lol you stay at the same hotel. Salary is definitely lower
OP, it’s a matter of perspective and each person opinion internally. Some will say Platinion is inferior, some will treat us as equals. Comp is lower indeed but hotels and everything are pretty much the same.
Outside, depends on the company and what they are looking for. I know in Europe the brand Platinion has become quite strong and valued, in other regions it might not be the same case.
I’m not here to complain haha kind of feels uncomfortable. To give some examples, I’ve been told our slides are shitty or that we just weren’t good enough to land in Core which is why we had to go to PLA. I think the best one (which actually made me laugh) is that some people call us “cables” because all we do is connect cables 😂
Please take into account that those are exceptions. Most people in the company are not like that and treat us as all from the same company.
It’s crazy to me that the business unit that requires specialized technical skills gets paid less than generic post-MBA consultants..
The world is going digital and we still haven’t prioritized our digital consultants. None of our digital-centric cases are possible without TA/PLA/DV.
PL2 - I think you just answered why modern day technology is so hard.. and why being a business technologists requires such a vast set of skills.
You not only need the core consulting and problem solving skills.. but the technical skills to understand the root of problems and help guide the business towards a scalable future.

If you are in BCG platinion you will believe prestige is same. If you’re in BCG classic , then you will refer to platinion like B4
Seconding - whoever used the throw up emoji for platinion being a mini Accenture clearly doesn’t work at platinion. It’s nothing like Accenture - different work, different exposure, higher pay, etc and it’s definitely better. Cases are tech strategy cases, very little implementation (though it does exist in the engineering chapters)
Comp is different and yes there is difference in prestige. No they are not invited to all the same events either (not that it matters), but more importantly we tackle different types of problems.
Hello , do you guys mind sharing your experience interviewing for bcg pla? Trying to make the jump from big 4 as a manager..
Comp differs by approx. Estimate is that it’s 10-20% for the same level.
Prestige is the same. We go to the same events, take the same hotels…
Career track is less stressful. No up or out model.
Sorry to say but at BCG everything apart from core, is tier 2, eg BCG pla MD don’t get revenue credit but have to bill their time.
That's really not true... Lmao. PLA MDs do get Rev share in their bonus but not same way as an MDP
People are missing the most important part. Classic MDPs own the relationships, they will never hand those relationships to Platinion to own
That’s not the case everywhere. In ex-WESA, PLA is not allowed to go to market/client without a classic MDP that’s true. In ex-CEMA, PLA has their own client relationships and have projects sold by themselves without any classic interference.
Knowing how much influence Germany has, it wouldn’t surprise me that the whole EMESA would now follow ex-CEMA approach especially with the new reorg.
It's somewhat moot. They're reorganizing and simplifying all the digital brands in the near future, so this will all look different before long. Stay tuned.
MBB is an incestuous racket of the elite business school grads. Tech and data folks, even elite ones, just aren't respected in the traditional consulting model.
MDPs view as inferior. Not the rest of the world.
Great exit opportunities from BCG Platinion - I have seen folks switching to Amazon and Coinbase from BCG PLA. And as mentioned in comments above, there is a major reorg happening and the leadership is committed to making these changes by end of this year.
Nobody is questioning that they exited on their merit but the BCG brand might have helped them in getting these opportunities. You just need a foot in the door and that is what BCG brand can provide.
PLA has a path to partner now, probably more news to come with the ongoing reorg in DigitalBCG.
Comp is less than core (10% give or take) and also more bonus heavy, still better comp than I was offered at T2 for my YOE/level interestingly enough.
I hope so that happens, rate aside - people with tech background shouldn’t be punished (by not getting the chance to shoot for stars and also being treated like 2nd rated citizens by some mba monkey). Sure classic have their importance but tech is no longer back end job.
It is increasingly integrated into as a business driver. Especially in financial services. Neo banks are digital, all fintechs are digital and no one can do a better digital strat than a tech implementation guy. Cause classic guys just come with u realistic pic.
Thoughts on the same subject but comparing generalists to gamma?
Gamma is somewhat different because they have different segments of people , and one segment in particular (can't remember the designation) is essentially fungible with classic BCG generalist, with a little more data knowhow. They are partner track etc.
So if you're that segment, you're viewed favorably. If you're any other segment, then it's YMMV/Tier 2.
Curious about the reorg happening now. Are they merging all sub teams under Digital BCG into one big team?
Can’t really tell you much, they just announced an idea internally, first measures should not happen before summer.
But then what’s the digital arm of BCG ? Would it be DigitalBCG which is a part of the core ?
DigitalBCG is an umbrella, no one is assigned to this. You are either part of Platinion, TA, Gamma or DV and then all of those fall under DigitalBCG.
For Core we are talking about TA (Technology Advantage).
What about GAMMA ? I am Currently a Quant in the FI looking for a change. I got approached to join BCG GAMMA as Solution Lead. Any feed back regarding the Solutions Track in GAMMA is it worth taking I havent been able to find much about this track
