Is there a good argument for getting both PHR and SHRM-CP?

No. Not really. One certification is enough! I have had responsibility for hiring and one looks great- no need for another unless it is the next level up. Some people have both because they were grandfathered in when both SHRM and HRCI split off and started offering their own certifications.

like

If you are in an HR role already your experience counts the most. I sit on a ton of selection panels for HR roles. No one really cares about those certs once you have experience. Better to spend your time getting project experience or developing analytical skills. That maybe an unpopular opinion but I just don’t see those certs overly valued.

like

I’ve thought about it just bc I’m an overachiever. I have my PHR and I seem to think I look just as qualified as someone with both.

like

I have both of mine. Either/or is fine in my mind. The main reason I have both is I had the PHR first for a long time and when SHRM decided to do their certification - in order to entice those of us with HRCI certifications, they told us we could get the equivalent level of theirs without doing anything. Just apply.

like

All things equal, having both certifications is better than having only one. Especially if the employer isn’t the one who paid for them.

The latest income report from the society of industrial organizational psychology also shows that those with multiple HR certificates were paid more than those only with one.

like

Honestly, one is fine. Unless you’re seeking a higher one that’s diff from the first one obtained.

I only have SHRM. It's pretty useful and more than enough for me. But if you still want to get both, then go for it, especially if needed.

The best argument is if you enjoy purchasing two of the same shirt to wear at the same time, then getting both is the choice for you.

I was just offered an RN II position at Stanford Hospital’s B3 unit for $84/hour. Are there any RNs out there who can tell me what it’s like working on the unit and if it’s worth leaving my job for? I love my current job, my schedule and the people. I have no problems with it except that it’s 1.5 hours away from my family and it pays $25/hour less than Stanford.

Also, do you think it’s too late to ask if I can visit the unit before I make my decision? Thanks in advance.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks
